Iranians have the capability to enforce area denial doctrine in Persian gulf. them sinking a super carrier - i am not sure! mission kill - yes! they successfully developed area denial forces..in all sense and purposes USN Carrier will not operate from Persian gulf. that is a mission kill itself.

about weapons my take the most dangerous weapon Iranians have is license produced VA111 Shkval rocket torpedo. yes its a straight running torpedo and very loud! but does not give time...in strait of Hormuz its a killer! and in quantity use can effectively force US Navy to keep out of Persian Gulf.

so in any case...US will not going to invade Iran! bomb yes it can do it...and Iran can take it! no problem for them but no soldiers on ground!

It is interesting that iran has developed fighting tactics that were first utilize in 2006 Lebanon War! they have concluded that investing in proper Airforce and proper Navy is useless...just provides Israel-US forces great turkey shoot opportunities so they have left them as there are...show of flag forces..even army as proper (Tanks/AFV/IFV and artillery) just look at them they know these wont survive so left them as is...invested in Light fast moving infantry, ATGMs and Lots and lots of Rockets..with mission to effectively deny opposition forces complete control of area. thus grinding them to long stretch war!

The real truth is that the IDF is trash, inflated image with no experience and made up of conscripts. The wars of the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s do not count for anything and prove nothing about today's armies in the region. They hid in Merkava tanks and were in a terrain that is not open (desert), Hezbollah at ATGW thus managed to inflict heavy losses.

No need for an aryan superior mountain persian to come by and tell anyone that. The amount of shit Iranians are fed and tell others is unimaginable since their youth. My friend! What Iranian Armed forces did or use in Iran-Iraq War was genocide of Iranian young men in institutional level by mullah! so its has lot to do with politics...

I am not the political guy...I have just gave opinion on pure military terms..as i see it from 3rd party perspective. the tactics used by Hizbullah in 2006 War were quite different in modern terms of war. you have to give credit were its due...

as for the mistakes..well you cant learn without mistakes...this goes for everybody!

GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States’ military presence in the Gulf used to be a serious threat but now it is an opportunity, a senior commander of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards said on Sunday, according to the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA).

“An aircraft carrier that has at least 40 to 50 planes on it and 6000 forces gathered within it was a serious threat for us in the past but now...the threats have switched to opportunities,” Amirali Hajizadeh, head of the Guards’ aerospace division said.

He added, “If [the Americans] make a move we will hit them in the head.”

Nothing more than chest thumping propaganda. I personally believe both us and Iran are more inclined towards war of words and deployments rather than actual attack. It will be interesting how Russia responds incase these words turn into reality. Also activity in Persian gulf would effect china and gau mutra land, so there reaction will also be interesting.
