Iranian UAVs | News and Discussions

There are rumors but let,s not forget that the most advanced missile and SLV tech is being injected to national space program by IRGC.
lets also not forget no satellites put into orbit since 2015 and that was 50kg (the first satellite omid in 2009 was also 50kg, so much progress!), modern satellites are 1000-5000kg+!

Iran has god knows how many satellites waiting to be launched, but there seems to be little incentive from this government to launch anything.I suspect rouhani doesnt want to do anything that could annoy his bffs in europe.
The irony is that we know iran has the 4d10 [korramshar]engine and very likely the rd250[kn14/15] as well,so theres nothing in theory from preventing iran from producing much improved boosters, but then the simorgh has barely even been tested let alone put up a payload.Pretty disappointing really.

They have more serious stuff to spend that money on: AD, Airforce, ..... It is really not a top priority.

ScanEagle.

Iran captured it. It’s how Iran got its hands on SAR technology.

Iran even gave a copy as a gift to Russian military official.

It is not the only military apparel made by IRGC and is designed to use military grade satellite navigation. Along side Su-22s also displayed a type of GPS guided guidance kit in form of folded wings and their new JDAM-like kits unveiled just yersterday in Kish Airshow.. So I think they either have an agreement that authorise them to use Glonass or Beidou or IRGC is on the verge of doing something herself.

LOL IRGC is not even close to doing something herself. Consider that both GLONASS and BEIDOU have over 20 satellites EACH in orbit to provide accurate data.

Iran would need to launch a similar amount AND have it be military grade meaning immune/resistant to hacking/jamming. The first thing that US cyberwarfare team would do other than try to knock out C&C systems would be to disable Iran’s positoning systems in the start of any war.

Given how rudimentary Iranian micro-sats are, they are a couple decades away from a serious space program. It’s also reliant on adequate funding. If Iran’s economy experiences a period of sustained growth then the government will have potential funding for more luxury military items like spy/military sats.

It should be.Nobody is going to put up satellites for iran, and a handful of small recon and comsats would be of enormous value to iran, even ones with limited capabilities.

Its the Yasir.
Its irans reengineered/redesigned version based on the captured boeing scaneagle, with the most noticeable difference being the new inverted v shaped tail, altho there was also a version that featured the original tail less configuration as well.

Here you can see the production line featuring both the original copy and the new v tail variant.

U.S shows a supposedly Shahed123 wreckage and says it has been recovered from Afghanistan in 2016 and that it has flown over several U.S bases (including Kandahar Airport, home of RQ170) undetected.
US displays weapons it says Iran provided to militants

Though I never trust anything from U.S, yet still it's interesting, specially considering the recent emerge of Shahed123 beside Simorgh and Segheh stealthy drones in attack against ISIS near U.S forces in Syria:

drone showed that it had taken off from Zabol airfield in Iran and had flown over several US and Afghan military installations in Afghanistan, including Camp Bastion, Kandahar Airfield, and Forward Operating Base Laghman.

I guess american radars and equipment in afghanistan must be even worse than what Huthis have in Yemen if they can't detect ancient shahed 123.

I wonder what is the answer of the guys who believed USA is monitoring any drone or truck or bycicle in iran 24 hours a day and 7 day a week

Their answer is they detected it from the start however were curious to see what it wants to do. So they let it complete it's mission until it ran out of fuel and crashed.

It doesn't look like it was hit by any missiles or something.

Americans have poor sensor coverage in that region. This Hermes/S-123 is extremely low RCS and low-cost (expandable). It is very long range and high endurance. It of course can malfunction and crash.

Most likely the Americans were just lucky to capture it after it crashed.
This concept of a expandable VLO drone was pioneered by Israel and probably also used against it (the Hezbollah "Ayoob" drone that flow over the Dimona reactor years ago could have been a S-123).
