Iranian economy on the verge of collapse

First,Iran is not making nuclear weapons. This a lie by warmongers that idiots believe it.

Second, the nuke itself is not a problem. You can see India and Israel have nuclear weapons, and they are in bed with U.S.This is what we call grand hypocrisy.

India and Israel never signed NPT and they are not under any obligation not to have a nuclear weapon.

If Iran not having a nuclear weapon program than just forget it. You are not a energy deficient country. Why are you playing cat and mouse game.

If you really wanted a weapon you should not had signed NPT. You can now bend the law by withdrawing from NPT and accept a looong sanction. But you can always bribe the west out of it like Gaddafi did.

.
Sometimes to get along you have to go along..you can always get the bomb like India/Pakistan did..boom one day India tested nuclear device..you don't go along threatening countries and try and make the bomb in the open without inviting consequences

.
What is wrong with you??
It was not so long ago we faced sanctions from US for similar reasons.Stop laughing on other peoples misery.

Here is some thing that will refresh your memory.

CNN - U.S. imposes sanctions on India - May 13, 1998

Good point.

No one should lol-ing on this. It is a serious serious issue. My heart goes out to Iranian people who are suffering under these sanctions.

However I would not mention India and Pakistan sanctions in the same thread. Reason?

Sanctions on India and especially on Pakistan were just slap on the wrist. Americans said come on man, I told you 70 times (as my grandmother would say) and you still don't quit. I am not going to talk to you for 1 whole week.

Why? USA really really need Pakistan and India, our history was different from Iran's.
And most importantly we never threatened anyone else except each other, or cut anyone's throat except each other (sad isn't it).

In the West they all felt that Indis and Paks are going to burn each others tails so why we need to worry about these bafoons (used to emphasize on the stupidity of building nukes).

Iranians on the other hand got into trouble because they expanded way beyond their immediate neighbors and touched some holy trees (if you know what I mean).

So at this stage the best thing for Iranians is to take their hands off of Hizbullah Hammas Israel Palestine thingy, or take their hands of nukie enrichment. Things can go back to normal pretty quick.

And I hope they do

But I suspect that Shia religion's emphasis on collective sacrifice (good thing sometimes and not good other times) and the stranglehold of Ayatullahs means there will be no change in the current direction of Iranian government.

What the hell?I'm saying we are not making nuclear weapons, then you are saying if we wanted the nuclear weapons, then why we signed NPT?Are you ok my friend?

Why should we give up our absolute right?Only because Israel and U.S don't like it?Why is U.S supplying UAE and Saudi Arabia with nuclear energy?Don't they have enough oil?
If we give up NPT today, will the sanctions be lifted immediately since we don't have any more obligations?

Unfortunately,U.S mainstream media has affected many people, kudos to them for their extensive brainwashing system.

Also, neither did India nor Pakistan sign the NPT. So technically, we were not under obligation to not build n-weapons since we never agreed in the first place to not build.

The thing is fear of uranium enrichment. If there are no nuclear weapons being built then they can be completely opened up for IAEA guidelines. Then, the problem of any questioning does not arise. Nuclear energy is a right of the Iranian state and its soverign decision on whether they want to produce power with nuclear or any other sources.

If you give up NPT or withdraw, it will only make Israel and the US say, look we said they were building weapons and that's why they are withdrawing. The legal option available though under NPT is to bring the reactors under IAEA safeguards.

You are not the only country which has a nuclear program. We also have a peaceful nuclear program and Russia is building a 2000 MW plant. No issue whatsoever. We also made them to take back the spent fuel and clean up the mess once done. Who cares about Uranium as long as we have power. Besides Russia going to do 100% TOT from mining to enriching to building reactor. But nobody going to have a problem with that as we have nothing to hide.

But Iran is not coming out clean no matter how you are trying to say. You are trying to get to a point from where you should be able to build a bomb in short notice at least if not build a bomb.

They started enriching uranium before even have a nuclear reactor for power plant.
Once you have the capacity of 5000-10000 MW of power then you have a basis to substantiate to enrich uranium.

Those sanctions hit Pakistan very hard. Just before the test Pakistan's economy was facing crisis but there was intense pressure on Nawaz Sharif to respond to India's nuclear tests.

a smart technicality but never the less it worked as an excuse:p:P:P

yeah but we handled our sanctions really well at that time our economy was actually better off then it is now and another very good thing happened we became self reliant due to sanctions and with it military embargo we started producing our own weapons and tanks

irans greatest problem is that these sanctions are much much much much harder then the ones that were placed on pakistan and pakistan had china too iran doesnt have that iran needs some hard core deals of its resources

they should just make it and come out they are not coming clean come on man the us wants to do to them what they did to south africa strip them off their nuclear power plants and then offer them their own so that they cant do anything about it and do whatever us says

iran is stuck what it needs to do is have massive trade with india pakistan and china especially chin asince usa wont even say anything to their donor to whom they owe trillions of dollars:p::p:P:P

.
Who do you think suffers from sanctions in the first place? The rulers, or the ordinary people?

I did say people. Obviously its the people of the country that will suffer because of increased prices and inflation and what not.

I didnt mean to say that Iran is making nuclear weapons. I should have rephrased. I meant to say that this whole nuke program and this feud with the west is costing Iranian people.

I agree that this is a war rhetoric from the west and from Israel. But Ahmedinejad is also an idiot who had to say that Israel should be wiped off the map and then start making nuclear tech and get into trouble.

BTW India and Israel never signed the NPT, for the precise reasons that we wanted to have nukes. Even Pakistan didnt for the same reasons. All 3 good decisions. Otherwise can you imagine any of these nations without a nuke in their respective regions? Those countries will be too insecure.

Iran's Rial: Bad policy or Western sanctions?

Riot police in the Iranian capital, Tehran, have fought with protesters angry over the sharp fall in Iran's currency, the Rial.

Hundreds of demonstrators turned out on Wednesday to demand the governor of the central bank step down. They also accused their president of financial mismanagement.

The Rial has fallen to a record low against the US dollar in recent days.

Ahmadinejad blames US and EU sanctions imposed on Iran because of its nuclear programme.

Calling it an economic war, the Iranian president said: "Everyone is aware that foreign trade and commerce don't have a very high share in the Iranian economy. But the figures are being used in the psychological war for a greater effect on the markets. The number of US dollars being exchanged in our country is not that big."

The Rial has fallen in value by about 40 per cent over the past week. The drop is being blamed on domestic mismanagement of the economy and Western sanctions.

A year ago, it cost about 12,000 Rials to buy one US dollar. But this week, in just three days, Iran's currency dropped by about 20 per cent. It hit a record low of more than 37,000 Rials to a dollar.

That means the Rial has lost more than 75 per cent of its value in the past year.

Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, has acknowledged that sanctions have contributed to Iran's economic problems, but says those sanctions could easily be lifted.

"I think the Iranian government deserves the responsibility for what's going on inside Iran and that is who should be held accountable and I think they have made their own government decisions, having nothing to do with the sanctions that have had an impact on the economic conditions inside the country… and of course the sanctions have had an impact as well but those could be remedied in short order if the Iranian government were willing to work with the P5+1 and the rest of the international community in a sincere manner."

P5+1 refers to the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – China, France, Russia, the UK, the US – plus Germany. In 2006, this group of countries joined the diplomatic efforts with Iran with regard to its nuclear programme.

So what is really behind the latest collapse of the Rial?

Joining Inside Story for the discussion with presenter Ghida Fakhry are guests: Mohammad Marandi, an associate professor at the University of Tehran; Babak Emamian, the chairman of the British Iranian Business Council; and Joshua Goodman, the communications director at the Transatlantic Institute, an organisation aiming to foster dialogue between the US and the EU in the fields of global security, Middle East peace and human rights.

"The cause of all this misery is because of the exchange control that was imposed at the beginning of the Islamic revolution. The death knell of any economy is when you impose exchange control because you introduce black-market economy…and it starts with the currency."

Babak Emamian, the chairman of the British Iranian Business Council
