Iranian cars ... Gonna buy if available?

Guys does anyone have any info about this rumour that the IRGC is reverse engineering a Tesla car?

That would be a hell of an idea. Apparently China has already done it with Xpeng

I found this after searching for some info about the topic.

It basically says that Iran Khodro bought a bunch of Tesla cars but no one really know why. There were speculations that these will be used for VIP transport. But now it appears that they will be reverse engineered, and based on the link above there are several models that have been bought. That means the IRGC and Iran Khodro should be able to offer a couple options once they start production. Also in the article it says that there is a chance these will enter the market in the years 1401 or 1402 based on the Iranian calendar, which should be 2 or 3 years from now.

Reverse engineering of electric cars shouldn't be that hard. They are way less complicated than internal combustion cars. The only high-tech part is battery and power management which again should be easy to copy.
the autopilot is the problem

the autopilot is the problem
autopilot is a mix of control system and AI. IRGC is a top player in both. Control system -> Missiles!! AI -> Efficient Object identification and classification of radar signals.

No that is not a problem. Problem is user experience. Iran is yet to produce a company that truly master user experience and GUI.

Agree. However none of the existing versions would work in Iranian streets anyways. Tesla is still working on enabling its onboard AI to predict if a car wants to change line without signal. This is something that happens in 90% of the cases in Iran. You need to have some kind of sixth sense!

It's not a necessity.

These are complete different beast , you may have experience in AI but that's for complete different environment. To be honnest you just only need to drive once in one of the iran streets to understand how much more complex it is compared to moon landing.

The environment is different but the complexity of the problem is exactly the same. Data is needed to classify various objects and their behaviors. A model is created and can do proper predictions based on the said dataset, meaning identifying incoming objects in an accurate manner where and apply an appropriate response. Honestly this discussion is outdated. Check this video applying the open source mask rcnn.

There is one difference . you can perdict the target behavior . you can't predict middle eastern drivers behavior.
