Iran To Discuss Su-30SM and T-90 Deals During Moscow Visit

Iran's Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan may discuss deals to buy Russian fighter Su-30SM jets and T-90 tanks during his visit to Moscow on April 26-27, Interfax news agency reported Friday.

"Obviously, Mr. Dehghan will meet his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu. They will discuss various topics and this issue also could be raised. Quite possible," Interfax quoted an official at the Iranian embassy as saying.

In February, Iran had sent a list of military hardware -- Su-30SM fighters, Mi-8 and Mi-17 choppers, Yak-130 advanced jet trainer along with other weapons that it was interested in buying from Russia in an $8 billion arms deal.

Iran’s defense minister had issued a statement on the ministry of defense website last month saying: “Iran needs to seriously focus on the air force and fighters. We are moving toward a contract. We told them that we need to be involved in the production (of the plane) as well”.

Dehghan however, did not specify how many fighter planes Iran will buy, or give a timeline for the signing of the deal.

If an F-16 can take on a F-35 then i'm sure F-35 has absolutely no chance against the Su-30SM

as for ATGM Iran has far more troops and far more ATGM's than the Isrealis top that off Iranian ATGM have already been tested and proven against Israeli tanks!

a F-16 can't take on a F-35 in a simulated dog fight it out manerved the F-35, but in a real scenario it would never even get to that point

the F-35 is the most advanced and most capable aircraft in the world. 5th/5++ generation and other competing 6th generation aircrafts don't even come close to the F-35

And how the Israel deploy ATGM in Iran? They have any expeditionary force? Hell even India China dont have expeditionary force.

The main threat to Iran is KSA, not Israel, in more realistic sense.

You are kidding, right? It's true that French do bend over backwards for anyone paying more money, but that doesn't mean U.S is going to allow them to do so, even if France itself agrees with it.

The combat effectiveness of the buggy slow unmaneuvrable F-35 Brick is nowhere near decisive.

Wrt ATGMs - no tank in the world can reliably survive a direct hit from a top attack ATGM, because tanks have such little armour on the top.

The way to go to defeat ATGMs is active defence systems like the Shtora.

Regardless, I'd rather Iran only buys what it cannot make. Buy Su-30s but make tanks ourselves.

Su-30SM is a bigger size class than F-35. Su-35SM replaces F-14 in Persian air force.

If Russians don't want to bomb Syria, give the planes to Persia and let Persians do the job.
