Iran says offers India bigger role in strategic port | Reuters

Nowadays lots of burning stove under our neighbour's *** . India is touching new hight every single day under the new government . Amazing to watch our aspirations getting real . India and Iran will form a new strategic alliance Pakistan which is pro sunni country . Only India can deal with all religious states and contrast powers .

.
Many of our Pakistani friends were jumping for joy thinking that Iran will now ask India to pack its bags and leave after they signed the nuclear deal! Now this news means more egg on their faces!! The way things are going, they'll need to start importing eggs from India!!

Ok, seriously, note the words, 'strategic port' in the report. That could even translate to establishing an Indian naval base there!

I like both countries. But why the hell would Iran allow an Indian naval base? Iran isn't a 'receivership' country. Heck, Iran would trade with anybody, and partner with everybody, but won't allow an Indian naval base.

.
Some Indian posters appeared quite 'ecstatic' about the possibility of Iran allowing Indian military bases in Iran - my question was posed to understand what specifically their rationale behind such claims was.

If you read my subsequent posts, you'll realize the intent behind the question.

Trollers :D
You knw that .

Yes I know.I agree with your comments.
A good trade relation between India and Iran is also good for Pakistan.
But if your govt was successful in opening that border we wouldnt have to invest in Iran.
Your leaders reluctance helped Iran and Afghanistan.
Well that is just another topic.

Anyway Iran will become a new landscape for Pakistanis .Another Gulf :D

Exactly.
Folks (who started this, Sorry I am too lazy to read the earlier pages) should calm down. Nowadays 'Strategic' is thrown around too often amongst various other diplomatic jargon. No need to get excited. Iran is a proud and independent country, like ourselves. Would you ever want there to be a base of any foreign country on our soil:stop:

Cooperation, sure, lovingly. But foreign military bases/naval bases? I don't see why unless you have a very strong enemy nearby.

Outside of the Chabahar Port and the road/rail network to Afghanistan, Pakistan's refusal to allow Indian trade with Afghanistan via the land route through Pakistan has no bearing on Indian investments in either country.

I really doubt it - Iran has many magnitudes more qualified manpower than the GCC countries, and years of sanctions have resulted in an economy and populace that is not sitting around living off 'oil revenue handouts' ala the GCC.

. .
Iran has a choice, India OR Pakistan. I hope they do not make a mistake in choosing.

. .
Or if you want a nuclear umbrella:woot:

Well, I think the concept of a nuclear umbrella is vastly overblown. As if a few nukes stationed on somebody's soil means they're untouchable. Besides, I'm not sure India is willing (yet) to be so assertive outside of it's neighbouring regions.

There is absolutely no choice here. We are not a part of Indian/Pakistani stand off and don't meddle in the conflict either. That's why we will try to maintain very good relations with both. The same way we don't tell Pakistan: Either us or Saudis.
