Iran retaliates to Indian oil cut plans

Every thing is going wrong with India Iran relations. India had based it's economic growth on Irani energy getting it cheap but now come the competition from Pakistan and China and I can already see Indian growth rate declining.

Indian oil imports from Iran alone are 2/3 of the Pakistan's total oil imports!!!!

.
Indias new bestie Trump is very openly hostile towards Iran, combined that with the diplomatic threats, and delays in the Chabhar funding, and its clear the modis attempt to pivot Iran has completely failed.

Iran cant be treated like Bangladesh or Bhutan, they are sovereign and have their own interests. Alliances are built on mutual trust, and in this case it doesn't look like theres much here.

Do you want me to post articles where Chinese companies have backed down from projects in Pakistan?? Does that mean there is no trust?? Why mixing economics with trust/relations??

Chabahar Port early development in 2018’

India says it expects to complete the first phase of the construction of Iran’s southeastern port of Chabahar in 2018.

“We can complete the work on the first phase of the project in 2018… The funds are likely to be released shortly. Tenders are out for the project,” India’s Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari was quoted as saying by the media.

“Tenders are out for the project,” Gadkari said.

Gadkari added that Kandla Port had floated tenders inviting global bids for supply and commissioning of terminal tractor trailers, forklifts, reach stackers, empty container handlers and yard cranes among other equipment at Chabahar Port.

For greater trade and investment flow with Iran and neighboring countries, the Indian cabinet last year had cleared proposals for development of Chabahar port including through a $150 million credit from Exim Bank, reported the New Delhi-based The Indian Express.

The cabinet also authorized the Shipping Ministry to form a company in Iran for implementing the Chabahar Port Development Project and related activities, the daily added.

Located in the Sistan-Balochistan province on the energy-rich Persian Gulf nation’s southern coast, the port is easily accessed from India’s western coast, bypassing Pakistan.

As per a basic agreement signed between Iran and India last May, India is to equip and operate two berths in Chabahar Port Phase-I with a capital investment of $85.21 million and annual revenue expenditure of $22.95 million on a ten year lease.

Ownership of equipment will be transferred to Iranian side on completion of 10-year period or for an extended period, based on the agreement between the two countries. The Iranian side had requested for provision of a credit of $150 million in accordance with the agreement, reported The Indian Express.

As per the agreement, the operation of two berths is to commence within a period of maximum 18 months after the signing of the contract.

Besides the bilateral pact to develop the Chabahar port, for which India will invest $500 million, a trilateral Agreement on Transport and Transit Corridor has also been signed by India, Afghanistan and Iran, the daily concluded.

Adani Ports Looks to Expand East and West

Leading Indian port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) is said to have an interest in two major overseas projects – a giant container terminal near Port Klang, Malaysia and two strategically important terminals at Chabahar, Iran.

The firm announced Monday that it is beginning a feasibility study for a large-scale, modern container terminal on Carey Island, a few miles by road from the Port Klang Free Zone and Westport Container Terminal. Adani will be working with MMC Corporation, a diversified Malaysian infrastructure group.

“Malaysia is very strategic to APSEZ global strategy and with the Straits of Malacca being a global shipping route, it helps us to drive our global transshipment strategy further," said CEO Karan Adani in a statement. "With Vizhinjam port on one side [and] Carey Island port on the other, we will be able to give transshipment solutions to global shipping lines."

Mr. Adani referred to the firm's giant Vizhinjam International Seaport project, a container transshipment terminal on the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent. It will be the nation's first deepwater container port, and is expected to recapture some of the Indian cargo traffic that is transshipped in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Indian environmental regulators recently gave approval for the construction of the terminal to begin.

Adani also has ambitions to the west. India has long sought to develop the Iranian port of Chabahar into a logistics on the Gulf of Oman, a way to access markets in Central Asia and offset China's growing influence in neighboring Pakistan. Adani and competitor J.M. Baxi Group have been linked to the Chabahar project since at least 2015, and Bloomberg reports that qualified bidders for the port operating lease will be announced this month. The Iranian government says that the first phase of construction at Chabahar will be complete next year.

Iran starts construction of gas pipeline to Chabahar port

Baku, Azerbaijan, Mar. 7

By Emil Ilgar – Trend:

Iran has started construction of the first phase of pipeline project from Iranshahr to Chabahar port, which is close to Pakistan border, the Governor of Iranshahr Nabi Nakhsh Davoudi told IRNA Mar.7.

The total length of 56-inch pipeline is 280 km, but the first phase of that with 32 km has already began, and it is expected to be completed in 6 months.

Last week, Iran inaugurated Iranshahr-Zahedan gas pipeline.

Iran has stretched the 907 km pipeline (IGAT-7) from South Pars gas field to Iranshar in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, but 200 km of is needed to reach the Pakistani border.

Pakistan should have imported 22 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) of Iranian gas since January 2015 based on an agreement, but it hasn’t even decided to build a pipeline.

Now it seems Iran has focused to use IGAT-7 to supply domestic sector.

Iran is planning to connect its strategic port Chabahar with IGAT- 7.

Iran plans to construct power plants and petrochemical units in Chabahr, 80-km away Pakistan’s Gwadar port.

Currently only laughing stocks in this thread are Indians who are rejecting the report when it it is being claimed by Irani Media and also and international economic media.

Does this sound like the kind of things government officials would say to friendly nations? For instance, could you imagine France saying something like this to Germany, or Britain?

Earlier this week, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh had dismissed the threat of cutting imports, saying, "We cannot enter deals under threats."

"Using language of threats is not appropriate," Zangeneh was quoted as saying by Iranian news agency Irna. "There are a lot of customers for Iranian oil and their demand surpasses our export capacity."

“There is a race,” said Patil, the Gateway House analyst. “But the ground reality is that the Chinese commitments in the region are already up and running, while Indian’s proposals remain proposals.”

I don't believe in d1ck measuring however just to explain my POV using some old news...

Does above news = Iran/Pakistan are enemies?? Look relations b/w two nations needs to be looked at from broader perspective. If you start looking at relations b/w nations over every single business transaction then it will give you a very faulty picture...Just go through the links below and tell if you find it to be purely business transaction or non-friendly nations deals...

http://www.firstpost.com/business/i...ment-in-iran-to-favourable-terms-2722026.html

There is not a single reason that Iran and India should have non-friendly relations...there is nothing out there for which we compete....both sides are going to loose...so rest assured that apart from extracting the maximum economic benefits all these maneuvers will lead to nothing else...Iran would not want to loose a market like India and India would not want to loose diversification for fulfilling her energy needs...

on delayed payment.. very generous of you.. lol
By delayed payment are you referring to credit period? If yes, then just FYI - credit period is the norm in oil market..
