Why Su-30? Why not Su-35S???
I think its primarily because of cost. Iran wants something that can be used as both an air-to-air fighter and and strike aircraft. The Su-30, with its twin seats means that it is better equipped for attacking ground targets. The pilot can focus on flying, and the man behind him can man all the targeting equipment and weapons. Buying a multirole aircraft like the Su-30 means we don't need to buy a bomber and a fighter, because it can do both. On top of that, each Su-30 is actually cheaper than an Su-35.
Furthermore, Iran is looking to have Transfer Of Technology (TOT) and/or local production. Russia isn't going to offer any of those on the Su-35, which is currently their most potent operational fighter.
Which variant of Su-30?
The Su-30SM, which is derived from India's export version, the Su-30MKI.
Nothing
Oh, stop being so pessimistic.
