Iran may cancel $7bn gas pipeline deal with Pakistan: Iranian media

The ones still in place have no impact on this pipeline project.

Not all of them. Not even Russia is willing to build pipeline till sanctions are removed. Also with orange turd now being president of USA, more sanctions on Iran are just around the corner.

.
But question is why we even looking for gas from Iran ? The artificial shortage was only created in the era of Zardari First we have to investigate into our own reserves I am very sure that remains of Zardari still trying to convey false reports

Zardari was inherited army of haters.. which he appointed in govt. departments.
ever since, we have seen decline and sabotage in every govt. sector. SGNPL was no exception.

TEHRAN: Iran may cancel high-profile gas pipeline project with Pakistan due to stunted progress on construction work, the head of National Gas Company Hamid Reza Araqi told Iran’s Mehr news agency.

Hamid Reza said that Iran is faced with three options: either to continue with the pipeline, restart negotiations to realise the project or cancel it altogether.

He also asked Pakistan to complete the gas pipeline project on its side.

The “peace pipeline” deal entails import of 22 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) of gas by Pakistan and was signed during President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s tenure.

The news agency noted that Pakistan was to start gas imports in early 2015, but has not begun construction of a pipeline. Iran also has failed to finish the IGAT7 project which was to transit South Pars field’s gas to the borders with Pakistan.

Pakistani politicians have reiterated the country’s commitment to complete the project, while noting that sanctions by UN and the US on Iran slowed down the progress.

The $7 billion gas project has faced repeated delays since it was conceived in the 1990s to connect Iran's giant South Pars gas field to India via Pakistan.

A pathetic deal by zardari . Iran should either renegotiate or cancel it cuz we cant afford this insane price even qatar lng is expencise but this one is almost double of qatar's lng rate.

We shouldn't worry to much, Qatar deal initially was also very expensive till oil/gas prices dropped all over the world. Iranian gas will be cheaper then LNG imports.

I hope so cuz this is one of the most fessible way of getting gas!

It would short-sighted to pursue a pipeline that needs external funding and support in the time of Trump. The euphoria of Iran being unchained from sanctions was misplaced. Prudent decision to slow-play the Iranians at this time. Does not mean one should make an enemy out of them are poo-poo normalization efforts with the ayatollahs. There's a lot more for them to do to allay Pakistani concerns. Iranian threats shouldn't be taken seriously.

iran should stop this nautanki. You built the line up to the border. pakistan will take some time due to money issues before they can complete their section.

Pakistan committed from the day it signed the agreement. Price negotiations are not a problem at all but you cannot just cancel.

It's like if I build you a house but you decide the price is too high and want someone else's house. You can't expect not to pay for the house I already built just because you don't want it anymore.

The customer is only right if he actually pays... ;)

Pakistan has no funds to pay for the pipeline. First they have to secure a loan which will take some time. I don't think they are even trying because of price issue. You would have to lower your price to make it a win win situation.

Pakistan should complete the gas line / oil line

Most countries around the globe have discounted gas/oil prices coming to their refinaries from pipelines

It is ridiculous that we have to not do any trade with Iran while other countries are investing quite openly into their system

Sometimes i don't understand people. First they complaint about the government costing too many money for building infrastructures like motorway and metro bus system, and now complaining about why not pursing with the inexpensive project while sanction on the top of it just ended recently?

During that time, Pakistan government was desperate due to lack of energy option, hence forced to revive Nandipur power project that cost more money for maintenance in exchange for lower output. Then, billion-dollars loan approved which invested largely on the energy sectors. Now Pakistan is not desperate, to the extent even disbanding Nandipur power project. That is how the situation looks hopeful for Pakistan.

In the meantime, keep playing Iran while Pakistan can until Iran agrees to the nice budget. Until then, Pakistan has lot of stakes riding on Saudi Arabia, especially for Pakistani army - not just Pakistani government only.

Pakistan has money to fund considering they invested billion dollars on the energy sectors alone which should be operational before 2020 hopefully. Dealing with Iran while taking the account of Saudi Arabia is too much hassle at this moment for Pakistan.

Was Qatar selling us Gas at far lower price compared to Iran? Why Iran hasn't lowered price of gas as Pakistan wanted? What this all fuss about? Any idea, guys?

@somebozo @krash @Kambojaric

It's politics, that's all. Not about the price of the gas but where the allegiances of the ruling party lay. Who cares about the economics or Pakistan's strategic goals?
