INS Vishal might be nuclear-powered aircraft carrier : Naval Design Bureau

.
Nuclear power is best option.

R u sure about CATOBAR?
As of now conventional is lot more better than nuclear. ...considering maintenance cost, nuclear material. ...bt may be in our 3rd carrier...then we can also use thorium reactors. ....I strongly believe that vishal will be conventional! !!!

Nothing is sure as of now but definitely not MIGs. Pak-Fa naval version or Rafale seems more realistic for now.

I'm certain that it would also have the naval version of tejas

the article says more than 60000 tons...

But do Indian Shipyards have the kind of technology needed to built such massive carriers that are close to the US carriers.

We can use it for deep strike mission and destroying enemy ships and subs even before our fleet move forward . AN island must have 1 sq of F35 1Sq Su35 1 sq of Rafale 1 Sq of Tejas (excluding our planned fleet ) Each for seperate missions .
Jesus H. Christ!! Your enthusiasm and thinking is all well and good but you've given little thought to the practicality of such solutions. The days of single-mission fighter a/c is LONG gone and especially for carrier fighters. The need of today and certainly going into the future are fully multi-role one-stop solutions and thus the IN will be going for only ONE type not FOUR- I'm sorry but that is not feasible.

@Capt.Popeye what is the IN's view on naval UCAVs? Not heard anything on this front. Any hopes of these on our carriers?

UCAVs are a good idea; but into the future. But where will they come from? Nobody exports them, so we need to build our own.

Is a 60-65000 ton Carrier close to the US carriers?

It would have been interesting if the IN authorises study for a Rustom-N or Nishant-N or Aura-N. Not heard even a whisper of any of this :secret:

Add a couple of Squad of Su-34, TU-160 supported by Sea-Hercules and P-8I to complete the mix.

If US sells EMAL's, be assured that India would have to buy F-35C as part of package.

N-LCA is more of a tech demo, rather than a functional plane, no one is going to put a low quality plane on carrier where space is at premium.

Indian Shipyards could construct 100000+ tonnes vessel. It won't be as capable as US carrier due to inferior electronics.

What is the purpose of a nuclear AC, when our naval security focus is power projection primarily in the Indian Ocean

I am sure when the design is finalized it will be closer to 70-80 K tons. AMCA just might fly off it, so might Arora. Let us wait and watch. We are talking about a good 15 years from now.

In all probability ,it will be the naval rafale, which i presume will be made in India. Given Modi's stance towards a stronger defence industry at home, it only adds to my assumptions.

Indian Navy unlike the IAF has a strong push towards indigenisation. I know for sure they would want an Indian Aircraft to fly off an Indian carrier. That is why they are pushing so hard for Naval LAC. To make sure they can use it on IAC-1.

my personal opinion....The naval lca- will never figure anywhere close to the capabilities of a rafale. IT simply isnt designed to do so.
