What's new

INS Vikramditya, India's second aircraft carrier, out at sea again

If its a tale-chase not the same when your intercepting an inbound, Defence News - India successfully test-fires interceptor missile It intercepted an inbound BM and its max speed is 4.5 mach, so let me ask you again- is the AKG faster than a RV?

AND HERE IS THE INFO

180km to 250Km as I had said.
what's Rv !

AKG isn't a ballistic missile and it's made to destroy a moving target !

It is a fire-and-forget precision-guided weapon right? It is designed for use against fixed or what were described as “slow moving” targets

I need to learn more about this missile it looks deadly I need to read more about it before I can comment

Another dimension is, would the viki come into play in an India Pakistan war scenario?. We have ample nearby airbases to cater to it also the PN is not a big force that would require an aircraft carrier to be engaged, and the viki or any of our other aircraft carriers will be operating out of Pakistan's missile range.

This is the first I have heard about the missile I will look on the thread about it as I do not know the stats of it but we need Gambit and others to join and give their verdict

@RAMPAGE I have edited my last post to add some info. A RV is a re-entry vehicle found on most BMs carrying the warhead.

Its been discussed to death, check my above post.

what about the PLAN's presence in Gwadar. surely it will be armed with its toys like DF-21D's . it will protect it's investment

We'll see when that happens, and you are probably talking of a two front war scenario, in that case multiple dimensions come into play.

barak 1 ! not trolling but don't u think that she'll be a sitting duck against CM-400AKG @gambit your professional expertise needed !

Stupid logic. The IN's ACC's, just like the USN's ACC's rely on their escorts for much of their protection. As such when you are discussing any IN ACC's armaments you must also talk about the weaponry of her escorts ie that of the P-17/A, P-15A/B, Talwar class etc all controlled by the ACC's embarked AEW assets and 3D AESA MF-STARs. Have no doubt the capabilities the MF-STAR, RAN-40L and BARAK-2 combo are simply unmatched by any navy anywhere in the world. Throw in the advanced CAP fighters (which are right now the MIG-29Ks which are exceptionally advanced in their own right) providing the outermost air cover then the IN's ACCs/CBGs of today and the future can more than protect themselves come what may.

Deploy BMs on foreign territory, Chinese BMs to be precise that close to the Persian Gulf. Do you know the reason why most sane nations would never allow another nation to station its nukes in their country, take a guess.

o bhai do u know what DF-21D is ?

@RAMPAGE, CM400 has limited use, because of it's short legs depending on a single engined short haul aircraft like JK 17 - it will only be deployable in a defensive mode - that is when the IN moves in to blockade Pakistan's sea face and I don't think viki or any other aircraft carrier will move in so close to come under it's reach.

@RAMPAGE Secondly take into consideration the BARCAP or AKA the Barrier Combat Air Patrol, "a mission flown between a carrier battle group and the direction from which it is most likely that an enemy attack will come" The JF-17 does the not have the range to steer around the BARCAP and ingress from a different strike path from a southerly direction. AND the distance that can be maintained between the patrolling aircraft and the carrier, an easy 300-400Km. Not a good day for a JFT driver.

Indeed, for as long as the PN's AKG threat is entirely dependent on the JF-17 for delivery the threat posed by this system is very limited. Compare a MIG-29K to a JF-17 if you want to have a good laugh!

Yes I do (ASBM) and it is BASED on a BM, it compromises the American fleet presence in the region and it is not as nimble as the AKG and will probably require a sub-kiloton nuke to take out a moving target, it is for all intents and purposes a BM or more akin to a DTBM like our B0-5 DTSLBM and it has never been tested as such against a moving target. By deploying them you will invite nothing short of a full on blockade by the USN.

@Dillinger
DF-21D (CSS-5 Mod-4) Anti-ship ballistic missile
China has reportedly developed and tested the world's first anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) called DF-21D, with a maximum range of around 2,700 kilometres (1,700 mi),[10] in 2005, according to the US Department of Defense. It is estimated to have reached initial operating capability in 2007 or 2008. The guidance system is thought to be still in an evolutionary process as more UAV and satellites are added. The DF-21 anti-ship ballistic missile itself is assumed to have entered active service by 2009.
The US Department of Defense has stated that China has developed and reached initial operating capability of a conventionally armed[15] high hypersonic[16] land-based anti-ship ballistic missile based on the DF-21. This would be the world's first ASBM and the world's first weapons system capable of targeting a moving aircraft carrier strike group from long-range, land-based mobile launchers. These would combine maneuverable reentry vehicles (MaRVs) with some kind of terminal guidance system. Such a missile may have been tested in 2005-6, and the launch of the Jianbing-5/YaoGan-1 and Jianbing-6/YaoGan-2 satellites would give the Chinese targeting information from SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) and visual imaging respectively. The upgrades would greatly enhance China's ability to conduct sea-denial operations to prevent US carriers from intervening in the Taiwan Strait.
United States Naval Institute in 2009 stated that such a warhead would be large enough to destroy an aircraft carrier in one hit and that there was "currently ... no defense against it" if it worked as theorized.
The United States Navy has responded by switching its focus from a close blockade force of shallow water vessels to return to building deep water ballistic defense destroyers. The United States has also assigned most of its ballistic missile defense capable ships to the Pacific, extended the BMD program to all Aegis destroyers and increased procurement of SM-3 BMD missiles. The United States also has a large network optimized for tracking ballistic missile launches which may give carrier groups sufficient warning in order to move away from the target area while the missile is in flight.
Use of such missile has been said by some experts to potentially lead to nuclear exchange, regional arms races with India and Japan, and the end of the INF Treaty between the United States and the Soviet Union, to which the People's Republic of China is not a party.
Some have also suggested China could develop a "MIRVd" DF-21D with multiple independent missiles.China has recently launched a series of satellites to support its ASBM efforts:
Yaogan-VII electro-optical satellite - 9 December 2009
Yaogan-VIII synthetic aperture radar satellite - 14 December 2009
Yaogan-IX Naval Ocean Surveillance System (NOSS) constellation (3 satellites in formation) - 5 March 2010.
Yaogan-XVI Naval Ocean Surveillance System (NOSS) constellation - 25 November 2012
China is reported to be working on an Over-the-horizon radar to locate the targets for the ASBM.[28]
An apparent test of the missile has been made against a target in the Gobi desert.

Indeed, for as long as the PN's AKG threat is entirely dependent on the JF-17 for delivery the threat posed by this system is very limited. Compare a MIG-29K to a JF-17 if you want to have a good laugh!
i agree with u! that's the part where the j-10b come's in.
