Well we better get a great Navy too also , the last thing we want is India putting a naval blockade.

Also aren't we going to get J-10Cs to replace our F-7s ?
Bro we have two options , either we need to stand tall , or get annihilated.

We are surrounded by hostile entity , although Bangladesh is considered defence heaven ,still without becoming militarily strong power , we can't protect ourselves , specially when we have many Lendup Dorje types in Bangladesh.

So we need over all very strong armed forces with sophisticated equipments and logistics.

Doesn't matter how people whine about budget.

4. What's the point of getting EFT/Gripen if Meteor BVR will take time to be delivered? How long will it take?

@Indos @Bilal Khan (Quwa) @siegecrossbow

Three years for AMRAM C 7. This is document from SIPRI for Indonesian order, 2017 is the order time, 2020 is the delivery.

According to SIPRI, Indonesia ordered 236 AMRAM in 2017 and the ones get delivered in 2020 is 136 missiles.

Those missiles are for 33 F 16 and NASAMS.

BAF needs to focus on Western platform in first half of this decade as Myanmar is the clear and present danger.

Even a single squadron(16) of a 4+ gen Western fighter when backed by AWACS will be sufficient to keep Myanmar at bay.

J-10C can wait and better to see if J-35 is available in the latter part of this decade as 2-3 squadrons of these will make India really worried as they can do serious damage to IAF in a defensive role.

২০টি বছর বাল ছেড়ার পরে ১৬টি বিমান কিনে আরেকদফা বাল ছিড়বে।
Agree with this. I am glad that BAF rather waited for several years than jumped into buying Russian Su-30 and later having buyer's remorse. It is better to buy 1 squadron Western fighter jet than buying 2 squadron Russian fighters. For buying medium quality fighter jets or other weapons, we should go to our strategic defence partner, the Chinese. We need to eliminate Russia from our source of weapons. Their weapons are loosing edges compares to others, they have a bad after service records, in many cases, not even suitable in our weather/climate. It will be a good combination for us to stick with Western+Chinese+Turkish and forcefully proceed with our own indigenous capability development.

Russia should be completely eliminated for any major platform.

Agreed.

Not only are they unreliable against either India or Myanmar but their fighter tech is probably behind even that of China now and whereas the Chinese are getting closer to West every year, the Russians are falling further behind instead.

You think UK would not take India's side against BD in case of conflict?

Here are some facts:

1. 3 senior cabinet ministers are of Indian heritage in the UK. The next UK Prime Minister could well be Rishi Sunak.
2. Indian companies are one of the largest foreign investors in the UK.
3. UK is seeking access to Indian economy which is 10 times as large as BD's.
4. 3 times as many Indians in the UK as BD'shis.

Much rather BD sources aircraft from Sweden that does not have much connection with either India or BD than buying from UK that can be influenced by Indians both at home and in India very easily.

And apart from engine, which requires one time clearance from USA at point of sale, the rest of the Gripen is all European and so after BD gets the Gripen the USA is completely out of the picture. Sweden even has a ready domestic AESA radar that can be put into Gripen very easily and so apart from missiles and engine, the rest of the aircraft is pretty much Swedish.

Gripen has a lot of US components

Let us take the politics and strategic considerations aside, how much would a package of just 16 Euro-fighters cost with the infrastructure, munitions and training?

I say around 4 billion US dollars if a deal is signed this year or next with deliveries from 2025 onwards, going by previous deals in the last 4-5 years.

How does BD afford even a single squadron within its budget?
If it somehow found the money and emptied the treasury for the rest of the decade, then is this money well spent bearing in mind it's geopolitical circumstances with two pretty nasty countries in the form of Myanmar and Hinduvta India next door?

EFT is a rich-man's plane and not for a poor BD. Gripen/F-16 are just about the only affordable Western fighters for a country with BD's economy.
By the time we start receiving the EFT our economy will well pass 1/2 a trillion dollar mark.. Now even a road project cost around 2/3 billion dollar.. rail coming as high as 12 billion dollar. So, sure we can afford these EFT and couple of squadron more. ;)

Yes BD may still have some money available this decade and even 16 EFTs are sufficient to take care of the MAF - in fact I would say the version that the UK would be offering BAF with the Mk 2 Captor-E AESA radar and Meteor would blow those 50-ish JF-17s, Mig-29s and SU-30MKIs out of the sky with ease. It is far more advanced than anything Myanmar can get hold of probably this decade.

At this stage, if it is going to be 16 EFTs then so be it. That single squadron would instantly neutralise MAF and give BD overall military superiority over Myanmar again and that is the most important reason for buying a Western fighter this decade.

The bigger issue is what BAF will do after this purchase? Sit and do nothing for the next 20 years or continue the buildup with another 2-3 sqaudrons of 4 gen planes, build up drone strikes and cruise missile capability in this decade? This decade will be the most important for BAF with the present geo politics going on

Ideally 16 eft is just the start.... i would ideally like 3 sqd of eft but 2 is enough.... BAF should ideally maintain minimum 1:3 ratio of the most advanced jet with IAF. This is the first requirement.

After that we should concentrate on SAMs and combat drones. Once we have this then high number of lower ability but good jets.

But all we are getting carried away like we have done many times before...nothings confirmed.... BAF remains a fangless unpowered force.

If they come out to be Typhoons even 16 will tilt the balance in BD favor against India and Myanmar if it's just a small Ariel skirmishes and not a full blown battle.... Time to speed up the Akash NG production.... Myanmar too should go for some high altitude Chinese options and increase Flankers numbers..... Myanmar can also look for BRAHMOS type Chinese variant to hit the bases before those crazy Typhoons are airborne.....

What is BRAHMOS?
