Indonesia prepares to host 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, supports Asia FIBA Asia Cup 2021 that will be held in GBK sport complex and also the construction of new venue for FIBA World Cup 2023. Perbasi (Indonesia Basketball Association) Secretary General, Nirmala Dewi, and Errick Tohir, State Owned Company Minister, visited Jakarta Gov office to get the support.

Indonesia Basketbal League (IBL) has been started since Yesterday. It will be held from March until June where Ramadhan month will be postponed for religious reason. It is bubble system where people only can watch through IBL Youtube channel.

This competition is good to improve the skill of the players and popularize the game further.

In this season, no foreign players are allowed to play, only local players

All basketball team played in IBL league stay in Cisarua, Bogor, West Java. It uses bubble system just like a quarantine camp in order to prevent Covid 19 spreading among the team, official, and any one involve in the competition.

Top 10 play in IBL league so far, there is one Senegalese that is playing despite foreign players are not allowed to play at this season, he can play because Indonesia Basketball Association (PERBASI) has plan to naturalize him.

Yup, football association get huge money from central government and also many football club in local region get funding from local government since basically they are formed by local government in the old days as Indonesia football in the past has two competitions, professional ones where the club is funded by private sectors and amateur ones where the club is funded by local government and also belongs to local government assets.

And now after the join of those two competition under 1 professional competition, those from amateur ones are dominating since they get huge money from local government

Indonesia national team will do training in USA in November and has sparring with 6-7 basketball team in USA, then we will play against Lebanon in Lebanon in the end of the month.

Indonesia Basketball League (IBL) will hold 2022 competition with 16 teams, where 4 teams are new. This shows the competition is actually showing some business opportunity to the business people with basketball interest. This is good for our preparation during Qualification of World Cup and Asia Cup competition in July 2022.

New team, Rans PIK team, will be among the newest teams to compete in IBL 2022, the founder, Raffi Ahmad, is a well known businessman in the entertaining industry. The team will also make basketball school to popularize the sport. Raffi Ahmad as main founder also has professional football team.

The Team location is in Jakarta, so Jakarta at least now has three professional basketball clubs, Satria Muda (financially backed by SOE company, Pertamina), Pelita Jaya (financially backed by private sector, Bakrie Group Conglomeration), and Rans PIK (Financially backed by Rafi Ahmad and other partner (PIK developer) ).

FIBA World Cup 2023: Indonesia will soon build a venue with a capacity of 16 thousand spectators at GBK

SCOR.id - Indonesia is certain not to use Istora Senayan at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK ) Jakarta to hold 2023 FIBA World Cup , 25 August-10 September 2023.

Secretary General (Secretary General) of the Central Board of the All Basketball Association Indonesia (PPPerbasi ),Nirmala Dewi , mentioned Indonesia will have a new venue when it becomes the host.

According to her, the basketball arena is located next to the Gelora Bung Karno Basketball Hall ( GBK ), Jakarta, on the helicopter pad.

Currently, the tender process for the construction of the venue by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (KemenPUPR), has been completed.

In other words, the contractor who will work on the basketball venue project with a capacity of 16,000 people is already known.

PP Perbasi targets that the groundbreaking of the new basketball arena will be carried out in early December 2021.

The venue is expected to be completed in January 2023 or about seven months before the 2023 FIBA World Cup rolls around.

The reason is, before holding the FIBA World Cup, Indonesia plans to hold a test event first.

"So far, the timeline for the construction of the venue is still in line with the Perbasi agenda ," said Nirmala Dewi , Thursday (11/5/2021).

"Early next month it is hoped that the groundwork will be laid, while in January 2023 the venue will be completed," he added.

If you refer to the building with a capacity of 16,000 spectators, this will be the grandest basketball venue in Indonesia .

For comparison, currently, the best basketball arena in Indonesia is still held by the BritAma Arena, Mahaka Square.

The building, located in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, can accommodate up to 5,000 spectators.

As for Istora Senayan, which can hold many sports, it only accommodates 10,000 people.

The plan is that the venue adjacent to the GBK Basketball Hall will also have a multi-purpose status like Istora.

Thus, the place is not only for basketball events, but for many sports to music performances.

Precisely what I have expected (you can find my comment in previous post) that the new venue will be built just next to GBK Basketball Hal, so that GBK Basketball Hall can be used as warming up/exercise for the team that will play in World Cup 2023.

New venue will be built inside GBK sport complex with more than 17.000 spectators. This will also be Multi Event Stadium. There will be another 2 basketball field being made for practice purposes. The construction will be started in the beginning of 2022.

The stadium will be built in the parking area and Helicopter landing area (Helipad) in GBK sport complex. You can see in Minute 3:05 on the video. The previous parking area I believe will be made underground. The parking area seen in the design I also believe will only be used by important people during the games like basketball players, VVIP people, and security people cars. Next to it is another basketball stadium but with limited spectators ( around 3000 people ).
