Indo-Pak 'Berlin Wall' must be brought down

We are fine with it - as far as the conditions in the Treaty of Accession are met and whole of J&K becomes part of India - including P-o-K. That way Kashmiris are no longer divided. I am fine with the rest of borders being sealed forever.

How about let the people of Jammu & Kashmir decide who they would rather be part of, Pakistan or India.

@Omar1984

The main plank that Muslim League was working on was "protection of muslim" particularly in the muslim minority provinces.
You mention that Jinnah had no idea that 4 wars will be fought. In fact, he (and many Indian leaders) had no idea how horrific the partition would be. Please remember that the partition resulted in the mass killings in Punjab province and not the other way around.

The violence that happened in Partition happened because of the people's ill mentality. Had they just let the people cross the borders peacefully we wouldn't have seen the horrific acts that occurred during partition. And that happened in 1947, today is 2010...we have seen the true colors of india since 1947.

And ask those who do have families on both sides of the border what they think. And they are plenty of muslim Punjabi families in India as well, just like there still are plenty of sikh and hindu families in Pakistani Punjab. Although of course their percentages has been drastically reduced.

I dont know any Pakistani Punjabi who says he has family in Indian Punjab. Indian Punjab has only 1% Muslim population (what are the chances any of them are blood related to any Pakistani Punjabi). And dont give me statistics on Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, its a fact that many immigrants from other parts of India (especially places with large Muslim population like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar) have settled in those places. Muslims of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are not related to Pakistani Punjabis. Even not Pakistani Punjabis are related to each other. Do you even know how many clans we Pakistani Punjabis have. And Sikhs/Hindus dont even make 1% of Pakistan Punjab's population. Most Pakistani Sikhs live in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa far away from india. The largest minority in Pakistan's Punjab province are Christians.

And Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was not born in Gujrat, he was born in Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan. He did not care for gujratis as he cared for PAKISTANIS. He worked day and night for Pakistan for Pakistanis even when he was in his final stages of tuberculosis. He gave us Pakistanis a nation, he didnt do anything for Gujratis that you have in india, all the Gujratis that he cared about came to Pakistan.

Quaid-e-Azam said, "We are now all Pakistanis--not Baluchis, Pathans, Sindhis, Bengalis, Punjabis and so on--and as Pakistanis we must feet behave and act, and we should be proud to be known as Pakistanis and nothing else."

And only a insecure nation would advocate closed borders for eternity. How ironic that people from miles away from different cultural backgrounds (US/UK China e.t.c.) can visit our countries but we can't visit each other despite speaking the same language and sharing history?

Securing borders is good to keep the country safe. We Pakistanis would know this more than anything. Ever since 1947, Pak-Afghan borders has been pretty much been open and invisible and after 2001 we are paying the price for neglecting that border.

Why not open border with your other neighbouring countries. Why are you indians so obsessed about Pakistan? Hundreds of countries secure their borders, are they all insecure. Is U.S. an insecure nation for securing its borders with Mexico.

If someone from india wants to visit Pakistan, they'll have to go through the process of getting visa and passport like every other foreigner.

And stop comparing U.S., U.K, Canada to Pakistan and India those coutries never fought 4 wars against each other and dont have long lasting disputes.

Something to ponder upon. I don't say we will have open borders in our lifetime even, but eventually to be a successful bloc it would happen as the entire world gets integrated and connected with each other. Not just S. Asia, but eventually the entire world should be like that.

Good luck with that. In today's world every nation is obsessed with security. Opening borders will allow all the troublemakers easy access to make problems in the country they hate. And Pakistan and India is worst of all, everytime something bad happens in india they blame it on Pakistan and every time something bad happens in Pakistan we blame it on india. You can be successful and secure your borders as well.

Yes, India is having peace consultation with all the leaders of Kashmir, including the separatists who want peace in the valley and this is in progress.

Pakistan unfortunately will have no leverage in the years to come as its fan base is exhausted and people understand the real intention of Pakistan.

The mud kicked up non existent "water terrorism" is a proof of what will happen if Pakistan has its way.

Ohh and you missed the RAW-CIA-MOSSAD Nexus out to destroy your country statement in your note.

Don't forget the Tibetan monks led by the evil Dalai Lama who are part of this unholy nexus against the peace loving Pakistanis and the lovable Chinese.

^^^^^ a bunch of trolls.............but sry to say that its the kashmiri pundit and kashmiri muslim......who have suffered alot.........and only they should be included in the poll to be with which nation......not the indian punjabis in the region or the pakistani people migrated to the region..........it should also include the buddhist people of ladakh!

There needs to be a big wall(wherever possible) to separate India Border from Pakistan(and possibly Bangladesh) .Land Mines needs to be Planted all over this Border so that Terrorists can Reach Hell Faster even before Confronting Indian Army :)

Fencing is Not Enough.A High Concrete Wall Will Work Miracles for India. This Can Ease Patrolling of Our Borders.India must take this as a priority.

How I Dream a Tectonic Movement Make 100s of Kms Gap Between India's West Border. We Can Sleep Well without Worry for Terrorist Infiltrating.

hmm i think you were raised up in ISRAEL!! but well according to INDIANS!!

you are to powerful to strong for pakistan why do u need walls??? you can do surgical strikes you can destroy pakistan with cold start RIGHT???

so why worry why fence? indians have many sleepless night because of zaid hamid(can you guys get any more sadder)???:hitwall:

Pakistan and India could learn from Berlin Wall lessons

Pakistan-indian-640x480.jpg

KARACHI: There are lessons for Pakistan and India in the Berlin Wall that came down on Nov 9 in 1989, ending nearly three decades of separation between East and West Germany.
“People are the main political force for any country,” said German vice consul Gudrun Haider at a ceremony marking the fall of the Wall at the Goethe-Institut on Wednesday. Comparing Germany’s past with present-day Pakistan and India, she said the people in East and West Germany used to have somewhat the same kind of relationship. “Who knows, we might be surprised again,” she said, expressing optimism for a peaceful resolution to the bilateral conflict.
The Goethe-Institut is celebrating ‘20 years of German reunification’. Narrating the history of the public uprising that marked the war between communism and capitalism, Dr Christian Brecht, the German consul general, said that the fall of the Wall held significance not only for Germany but the whole of Europe and the world because it signified the lifting of the iron curtain that had divided the world. The two regions were actually united on Oct 3, 1990 with the signing of the unification agreement, which made Germany one federal republic.
Germany’s history teaches us that unexpected happenings can always occur and catch us offguard, said Haider. “It wasn’t just the Soviets but all of Europe that did not want Germany to unite because they were afraid it would regain its power.” But finally, people in East Germany who were suppressed under the communist leadership, took charge, she added.
Most of the visitors to the exhibition agreed on Germany’s importance in world history. Naeem, who said he had come to attend the lecture because of his interest in history, reiterated that Germany played a crucial role in shaping world politics.
Meanwhile, Dr Markus Litz, director of the Goethe-Institut, told The Express Tribune that the day marked freedom from Soviet tyranny. He said Germany’s peaceful public uprising was an example for South Asia — any objective can be achieved through a nonviolent struggle. Commenting on the situation in Pakistan, he said that people here must realise that dictatorships can be beaten by public force and they should never lose hope. “There is always a chance for peaceful change,” he added.

I agree we should reduce the tension and animosity but renunciation is a very bad idea. We will have more problems them. A Big no.

First certain conditions have to be met and only then this sort of decision holds any water. Without which it appears only as an apologetic rhetoric by the weak peaceniks. Politics has no place for such weakling mentality.

A rhetoric which we keep listening from Indians.

actually i did. but now that u have mentioned it.it is true. check this link out. and u will know.

YouTube - The day when PAKISTAN & ISRAEL came close to WAR!

What...Israel and Pakistan came close to a war??? this is nothing but pure bullshit and a is a lie and it never happened nor is it was ever mentioned by any Israeli prime that Pakistan is a threat in 1948 or whenever you guy think. These are pure fantasies.

Pakistan the leader of the Muslim Ummah who has the Islamic bomb. Considers itself the leader of the Ummah due to the Bomb....etc...it...however hang on a sec the so called Ummah doesn't give a a flying toss about Pakistan nor the bomb and Pakistan wouldn't be in a mess that it is if the Ummah cared and secondly if the money spent on the Bomb would be spent somewhere else. I know your prime minster said we will eat grass but make the bomb. Guess what the poor who really suffered because of this are still eating grass. What has this bomb given you guys? would have made sense to invest money in generation of Power so that at least the common man has 24 hrs of uninterrupted power supply?

Pakistan's Army is India centric and this bomb is/was/will be India centric... don't bring Israel into this as we really don't care nor do we feel threatened by Pakistan. Its the company you keep that's a threat or Its the people that you guys allow to reside in your country threaten the whole world. However to be honest better there than spread all over the world from this at least we know where they are.

The only threat that Pakistan possess is through the people it breeds/bred, cajoled, nurtured are these radical Jihadi groups. We all saw what these people can do especially how these people attacked Mumbai in 2008. These groups are threat to the whole world including Pakistan as one sees violence happen daily in Pakistan.

Which the Pakistan Army still doesn't understand how to tackle therefore good Taliban and Bad Taliban theory.

Nothing to do with the Indo-Pak Berlin wall however wanted to bring some facts here and concerning this topic as long as the Army owns/has the country ( which should be opposite) and this Army is India centric there will never be any peace. As this Army needs the India Bogey and security state or threat to state security in place to mainly stay in power.

Indo-Pak 'Berlin Wall' must be brought down: Jaswant Singh

Karachi, Apr.14 (ANI): Former Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh has said it is time that the 'Berlin Wall' erected between India and Pakistan following the 1965 war be demolished.
Interacting with media persons during a press conference after releasing his controversial yet popular book: "Jinnah: India-Partition-Independence" here, Singh said people from both sides of the border have long been trying to come closer and it is time for making a new start in the relationship of the two neighbouring countries.

"Masses at both sides of the border are longing to come close to each other, and therefore we must let go of the shadows of history and let the new dawn arrive. We must create a strong relationship with each other, otherwise the poverty at both sides of the border cannot be wiped away," Singh, who was expelled from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for praising Jinnah in his book, said.

Commenting on the US and the North Atlantic Territory Organisation's (NATO) intervention in India and Pakistan's issues, Singh said it is for both New Delhi and Islamabad to resolve their differences amicably.

"The US is around 8,000 miles away from Pakistan, whereas India is only eight minutes away, therefore the people of India and Pakistan must resolve their differences themselves," The Daily Times quoted Singh, as saying.

The book was released in August 2009 in India and soon became the subject of controversy.

It contains controversial opinions of Singh, claiming that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's centralised policy was responsible for partition and that Jinnah was portrayed as a demon by India for the partition.

The book has already received commendation from noted writers and experts Mark Tully, Meghnad Desai, Ram Jethmalani, Namwar Singh and Hameed Haroon, who believe that Jinnah's role needed to be reassessed.

During his stay in Pakistan, Singh would also release his book in Islamabad and visit a famous Hindu temple, the Hinglaj Mandir in Balochistan. (ANI)
