What's new

India's permanent seat on the UNSC

That was some 70 years ago...things have changed. The role of UN is not anymore related to WW2, and now it represents the world that is not in anyway related to WW2. I understand that it will be very hard to open membership to P5, but in next 25 years are so, India will be stronger than at least 3 of P5 both economy and military wise and would wield much more influence across the world than it is doing it now. P5 has no choice but to reform UN or risk becoming irrelevant.
Man, you can not just come in and say - "we want to become members of the Security Council." The Council was established by its members, and it will serve the interests of its members. The only way to change something - make another war and create something new nstead the UN.

.
Am pretty sure being a nuclear state is not the only qualification. It is also no coincidence that 3 of the P5 also have vast conventional superiority.

2 of the P5 are frankly losing relevance.

It is time for fresh blood. India has been knocking on the door. And frankly with her size and population and growing military and economic clout, she will not be ignored for long.

That said, I do believe we are still not there. I hope we get there a lot quicker now though, than we were moving along under the Congress.

India can't be accepted into UNSC without a vote from the members. And you can be quite certain that at least China will veto it.

I agree with you on the fact that some of the members of UNSC are losing "relevance" (France and UK). The only way to put some new blood into the UN is by dissolving it and forming a new body which I don't see happening within the next 50 years.

By the way isn't that Sunny Leone in your DP........ the actress.

.
What has India done to deserve such a place? The 5 permanent UNSC members are there because they won WW2. Heck, I would say France has no place as a permanent UNSC member since France surrendered to Germany early on in WW2.

IMO, to be a permanent UNSC member, India has to be on the winning side in WW3.

No hard feeling mate but some Indian people along with fighters from other commonwealth/colonies did have to fight under British flag. Anyway not much glory to be claimed by Brits in WWII.

Am sorry then but you are completely clueless about the exploits of the BIA in Asia and Africa.

If not for the BIA, China would not have been standing, because a large part of Tojo's forces were absorbed in possibly the bloodies engagements of WWII in Burma and Kohima, second to none, not even Stalingrad.

.
China was a winner?

2 million Indian soldiers saved China in the second world war. Agree to disagree.

And Indian soldiers played a key role in campaigns around the world. Yet Britain got the glory. In spite of being out for the count.
I do not want to remind you that, but in those days India was just a colony of Britain, and not an independent state.

You do not need to remind me.

Does not make the soldiers who killed Japan British.

And yes, it was India that killed Japan. The US merely came in and applied the coup de grace.

.
Im in favour of India joining the P5 on the condition that the P5 remains P5 and not P6. India would need to take the position from either Britain or France.

Oh they were British-British Indian subjects.India as you refer to and are trying to spin to mean something, didn't exist.

Regardless.

China was invaded, ravaged, and brought to its knees by Imperial Japan. India helped kill Imperial Japan.

The closest the Japanese army came to invading India was the bloody campaign of Kohima and the takeover of the Andamans. They could never breach into mainland India, in spite of Tojo throwing everything into the Burma campaign.

And you guys actually have the gall to call China a "winner" in the context of the great war?

Laughable, if not pathetic.

Britain and it's allies came to China's aid,not India.British Indians were ordered to play their part and they obeyed, most of them anyway.
In fact British Indians actually colluded with the japs and formed a rebel rag tag army.If anything Indians have harmed China during WW2.Quite contrary to what you claim.

Ordered? It was the largest full volunteer army of its time.

Aaaaah. False flag. Never mind. :)

Not only P5, there are around 200 countries that are members. Anyway what we think is our opinion. We are just some internet warriors.

US, Russia, France and UK have explicitly stated that they are going to support India's candidature. China has not explicitly stated that it would not support India's candidate fearing that it push India into US camp. But China has probability less options to say no to India. I feel India's membership just round the corner.

Yeah right,I didn't know an army holds a referendum when it's political masters pass orders.:D
British Indians didn't have a choice-the masters ordered and they obeyed. Those who didn't actually colluded with Japanese.
As I said,Indians have if anything, harmed allies and China during WW2.

Indian revisionist history, the height of inferiority complex.

1) India was not a country during WW2. You're a British colony, Indian troops fought for the Queen, not India.

2) British Indian troop didn't fight in China, only in SEA where they mostly surrendered to the Japanese.

3) Learn what is called War of Attrition. If not for China holding the Japanese into a war of attrition, which lasted 10 years, draining Japanese resources and manpower, British India too would've been invaded. (Bay of Bengal was already blockaded, resulting in Bengal famine) And American would've to face a stronger Japanese forces in the pacific.

British India troops were irrelevant in WW2.
