What's new

India's permanent seat on the UNSC

If UNSC is not reformed, UN will loose its legitimacy. Imagine a world hence 25 years and India in it. India will be much stronger both economically and militarily than at least 3 of P5.

How influential is UNSC today????? compare with 20 years back...... You will get an idea...... Fast forward 20 years it will be something like SAARC......

.
My reasons? Security Council - club of winners-states (and France). The rest does not matter.

China was a winner?

2 million Indian soldiers saved China in the second world war. Agree to disagree.

And Indian soldiers played a key role in campaigns around the world. Yet Britain got the glory. In spite of being out for the count.

I believe people do not change. Fundamentally.

It would be very foolish to allow Germany or Japan back as a military power.

I kinda agree with you my dear.

You see the problem now dissected right? It's about the 2 powers next to the P5, Japan and Germany, India is not center of the issue.

Assuming P5 are willing to dilute their power (very vague assumption though) then what? Japan for sure will be rejected by China. Germany? The West already speak in one voice under US command, why add another one? So the debate ends before it starts, it's not about India my dear. The reform, as @vostok said, will not happen, sweet talks yes, real action no way.

P.S.: Your avatar is taking my breath away ... :smitten:... who is she?

That was some 70 years ago...things have changed. The role of UN is not anymore related to WW2, and now it represents the world that is not in anyway related to WW2. I understand that it will be very hard to open membership to P5, but in next 25 years are so, India will be stronger than at least 3 of P5 both economy and military wise and would wield much more influence across the world than it is doing it now. P5 has no choice but to reform UN or risk becoming irrelevant.

I see the issue. And the US has strong Germanic as well as Jewish lobbies. That will be a big fight. Japan neither wants to go nuclear, nor I suspect will ever be allowed to go nuclear.

My DP is that of an Indian actress. Her name is Sunny Leone. I am a big fan.

P.S. Googling for her is not office or home safe.

I may not agree. Bilateralism may become more and more important, but UN has unique duties that are hard to replace.

Wow she is hot.
Do you look like her?
Don't tell me you are a guy ... :(

The next UNSC member should be a non-nuclear nation, if they don't want nations to build nuclear weapons than they must put such a nation into the elite club.

This will encourage other nations into trying to strengthen their militaries without nukes and dream of getting into that club.

Also China will veto it and US wouldn't want to lose power by including another nation into the mix. It's just politics saying that "We want India to be part of UNSC" to get favouritism among the Indian population.

Am pretty sure being a nuclear state is not the only qualification. It is also no coincidence that 3 of the P5 also have vast conventional superiority.

2 of the P5 are frankly losing relevance.

It is time for fresh blood. India has been knocking on the door. And frankly with her size and population and growing military and economic clout, she will not be ignored for long.

That said, I do believe we are still not there. I hope we get there a lot quicker now though, than we were moving along under the Congress.

OK dude ... :(

Yes winner as last-man-standing. True, China was half dead, like-wise UK and Russia, all just trying to survive the Axis offensive, France even disappeared soon war started. If US didn't step up then today there's only P3 on UNSC - US, Imperial Japan, Nazi Germany.

No hard feeling mate but some Indian people along with fighters from other commonwealth/colonies did have to fight under British flag. Anyway not much glory to be claimed by Brits in WWII.

The current UNSC is a post WWII world order.
