Indian students should consider studying in China

And I'm telling you a fact: the best of India does not match up to the medium level in China. But unlike in India, people elsewhere hold no such prejudice against degrees for where they are given. Tsinghua beats UC Berkeley as the source of US graduate student researchers. US also recognizes Chinese medical degrees. My old school in China has Chinese grad students who went to University of Science/Tech Chittagong for their BS degree and were never looked as inferior.

I'm willing to bet that the rigid heirarchy mindset of Indians is responsible for your current backwardness.

no sense of reality in ur post.

The rankings never tell the true stories. There are various factors that go into rankings. Some of them are as silly as 'diversity', 'male to female faculty ratio etc...

Most Indian students who study at Stanfords, and Harvards of the world are sometime ago rejects of IITs and IIMs. I have friends studying at Wharton school and Stanford GSB, getting a GMAT score of above 760(99%), but not able to get into IIM's. Naryana Murty's son is example, he was not able to get into IIT, but was able secure a seat at Stanford.

The main reasons for low ranking of IITs and IIMs are 'lack of diversity', ' low male to female faculty ratio', 'inadequate research funds', and 'sub standard infrastructure'. If ranked only by the quality of students, then most IITs and IIMs would be in top 20 in world.

The main problem with Indian education system is that it is very fragmented. We have few institutions that can beat the best of the world and then we have third tier institutions that are of sub standard in nature. No second tier. No wonder, we find so many Indian students studying at top institution around the world and am sure most of them are at some point in past are rejects of IITs and IIMs.

As for how much an university degree is worth to an employer, QS actually has done some research on this very topic.
QS World University Rankings - Topuniversities

Peking and Tsinghua are ranked higher by employers than any other Asian universities except NUS and Tokyo.

But of course, anecdotal evidence and Internet fairy tales told by some anonymous Internet warrior are far more credible.

But these days, IITians are nothing great, even the exam paper is nothing great. The 1990s were the glory years,i prepared for it just for the kick of solving those questions.

Its the colonial slave mentality. Real statistics don't matter. Only what one Korean "saw" matters.

I would say best place to do engineering in Asia is NUS/NTU.Everything is awesome over there,I got admission but my Dad refused to send me.

Do you know that a degree from NUS is considered $hit in India.

2) India universities seems to focus too much on engineering discipline. For a country with such strong cultural heritage, I think it's highly regrettable Indian universities are mostly absent from the arts and humanities lists.

first of all engineering degree is backbone of any developing country. second thing india is well know for its art and diversity.

I know many Chinese people i speak to from the mainland but their command of english is very poor compared to Indians in general.

Nothing would beat IITs and some NITs in Engineering in Asia. As one of the poster was saying: A degree from IIT is enough to get you a Job at Intel, Goldman Sachs, Blackstone or KKR. Such is the reputation of IITs.

India's further education like Universities are 3rd class apart from the IIT/IIM thats why so many come to Europe. The Indian goverment must do something about it and get the standard up.

.
top students from China and India are almost the same, not much difference, but in India the majority of the people are deprived of education, especially among women,in Japan some people say that mothers are the future of the nation.that is something India should really work on.

Sorry, white Americans don't share your, uh, sentiments. It's OK that Korean BS level engineers are uh... "better". No wonder they can only make tiny little tweeks, any big move from Koreans is 100% fake like the cloning scandal.

Top Ph.D. Feeder Schools Are Now Chinese

A new study has found that the most likely undergraduate alma mater for those who earned a Ph.D. in 2006 from a U.S. university was … Tsinghua University. Peking University, its neighbor in the Chinese capital, ranks second.

BTW, this was in 2008.

Most Indian students don't go for PhD's. Indians go for either MBA or MS in engineering.

India always claims that it is a fair and democratic country, but fairness in education among all people is a very important part of human rights, cause that can decide an individual's future life.if you can not find fairness in education.you are in no position to talk about human rights.
