In a major reprieve to the former Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday quashed a portion of the Lokayukta report accusing him of corruption in grant of mining leases in favour of two companies, the sanction given by the Governor to prosecute him based on the report, and the First Information Report registered by the Lokayukta police against him.

“He was condemned unheard as the Lokayukta violated principles of natural justice by not issuing notice to him before making the accusation,” a Division Bench of Justices K. Bhaktavatsala and K. Govindarajulu said on Mr. Yeddyurappa's petition challenging the report.

No material was produced by the Lokayukta to establish that Mr. Yeddyurappa had favoured any company. The portion of the report titled ‘South West Mining Limited (SWML)', referring to corruption charges against him, was not within the scope of the reference made by the government for inquiring into illegalities in mining, the Bench said.

“Even during the arguments on the petition, a specific question was put to counsel for the Lokayukta [asking him] to produce any material to connect the petitioner with the alleged offence but he was mum.”

The Supreme Court today slammed CBI for describing anonymous letters against former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah, an accused in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing case, as complaints about his alleged involvement in extortion racket saying it smacks of "inefficiency" and amounts to "insinuation."

"This is clearly an insinuation which is wholly unwarranted and totally unfair", a bench comprising justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai said.

"You (CBI) told us on these complaints no action has been taken (by the state government). No action can be taken on these letters. The complaints appear to be absolute trash" the bench, which perused 200 such complaints made available to it by CBI against Shah, said.

"You (CBI) are supposed to be our finest investigators. Now you have to respond to all these lapses and inefficiencies", the bench said during the hearing of the plea by CBI seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Shah by the Gujarat High Court in the fake encounter killing case.

Let me break it down to what they are talking about...

15 lakh crores is same as 15 trillion rupees (about 250 billion dollars). So at 2% there has to be 750 trillion rupees worth of legal transactions taking place to generate that kind of revenue.

Total movement of currency circulation in India is only 140 billion dollars. So, the numbers are way off from reality.

Thats the accounted money,what about the remaining black money?

You have to go with what you have. How much of black money is in circulation is hard to guess?? Lets say black money is 10 times the accounted money then we have 1400 billion dollars in circulation. 2% gives us additional 70 billion dollars. Still the figures are off.
