KARACHI: Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz here on Sunday said that the Indian Ocean should not become a theatre for strategic confrontation or the launching pad for domination over Asia.

"Instead we in Pakistan are of the view that the Indian Ocean should become a zone of peace and cooperation," he said.

Addressing the inaugural session of the 1st International Maritime Conference on "Maritime Threats & Opportunities in the 21stCentury: A Global Perspective on the Indian Ocean" in Karachi he said that Pakistan holding talks with India on Sir Creek dispute adding that the issue will be resolved soon.

Pakistan prime minister said that the government has formulated national maritime and mercantile maritime policies under which steps being taken for development of these sectors.

Haha, he seemed to have read the mind of India directly and thus saying Indian Ocean should not for confrontation or domination!!
Cuz Thats like EXACTLY what IN and govt want!! Thats why so much is being done for the Navy!! Every Naval Chief says that IN should be the ONLY dominant force from Malacca to straights of Hormuz!

Pakistan finally is waking up into Indian Designs, India is building its Navy in a very very serious way, Most countries are doing Naval Excersises, with the Anticipation of Vikramaditya aka Gorshkov coming and joining the fleet. Pakistani PM is right, but India will not hear it out; It is quite important for regional domination and exsistance of its economy and more importantly it reigns in China

Finally someone woke up!

Yes, i was always wondering why Pakistan never paid any attention to its Navy. Navy is the next dominion man, it will play a MOST decisive role in any battle, whether it be influencing the land battle, launching another front, destroying the other ARMY from the sea, or whatever. In fact as time comes, army will have the lowest priority among the three.

Infact Navy is the main tool for power projection too. Nothing infuences more than a Navy. I say send Vikramaditya with its CBG the new CBG's that is, the P-28's ASW, Shivaliks, Talwars, Delhi's along with Barak NG's, Barak and Kashtan's for protection, and yeah the AWACS, P-8's and other things, and hopefully ATV, Along with the LPD and see some serious sweating wherever they are sent.

Navy will enforce blockade on another country, defend sea routes, give energy security.

You know its our navy that will make us proud, our navy did such a great job in the tsunami and that i think is what made the govt really look at the navy. And its our navy because of which other nations will call us to patrol their waters like some countries have.

That is why three carriers are essential, Vikramatidya is one, and IAC will come by 2012. One for the west, one for the east and one in South/Repairs, though the new carriers wont be like the STUPIF vikrant, in the friggin repairs most of the time, either this is not working or that.

By 2020-25, we should have a 3 carrier Navy, and man then India would REALLY pull all stops in the IOR(Indian Ocean Region). hell when here are 2 active CBG's India wont wait to go in any war.

And thus you see now why India wants to develop the Coast Guard to Guard the coast and leave the Navy free for offense!!

AND when the Sethu-Samudram project gets completed, woohoo, the Navy will ******** ROCK! Not only will the fleet joining time reduce by HALF!! it would give a natural place for the submarines to hide! And bring MORE AND MORE revenue to India through the new trade route!

. .
PA and PAF have traditionally claimed the lion's share in military expenditures but mark my words, 2008 will be the year of the navy. There are major deals in the pipelines and I can assure you it will be big news.

We're working on a new modernisation and expansion plan wich will include offensive capabilities.

Can't say more at this moment.

hehe, sorry to say this Neo dude, but look at the map, the REASON the govt is doing all the diplomacy to other countries is so that Pakistan cannot act as a counterweight to India even when it develops a good navy and offers an alternate to the IN. The IOR would be SURROUNDED by friendly states in which IN would have bases or port rights for military. They would already have treaties with India so that IN would patrol their waters.

Apart from keeping China out, this would make sure, that in the future, PN does not start challending IN, not in terms of number of ships, but in terms of influence. That is EXACTLY what they are preparing for. And i'l say this, they got their act covered.

Myanmar, Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshwadeep, Seychelles, Mauritious, Madagascar! In all these countries, we have SUPERB relations and they are being actively pursued!

Finally,. someone woke up, guyies don't get happy economy doesn't save any one when interests are running (Ex: Lebanon, they didn't care and neither did the US). Anyways,. next month Pakistan and Turkey are to sign a deal (on 4 ships, they will collaborate and work together), and someone on PakDef.info, who has connections to the Navy said Pakistan is also interested in 054 from China (still have to wait word on a news release from the govt.). But it's high time they woke up, and I must say they we should focus on underwater capability (Subs),. concentrating to much on surface wouldn't be in the interest of PN. About China,. yeah they will come to Pakistan port they have to protect their oil interests as well, recently China invested about 3-6B in KSA oil (not Iran that was a different deal worth 12B). All I can say is things will start to heat up. And I doubt China will listen to Indian or US call, for not coming having China is in both nations (Pak & China) interest. India might have connections to other countries but also remember in Africe, China is starting to pull it's weight and developing friendship which they didn't years before, etc.

ALL IN ALL THINGS WILL HEAT UP, INTERESTS WILL COLLIDE

.
all indian trade to central asia and uae has the best routes through pakistan waters..this is one thing the businessmen in mumbai have been demanding for so long the start of a ferry servie from mumbai to dubai via karachi..the strategic importance for pakistan will always be there..

definately china have started to give 6bn aid to africa and for the western provinces of china there is no better route to trade than gwadar pasni and karachi..and that also in their friendly country unlike russia..:coffee:

Once the Gawadar port is operational. The government will be surprised on how much important the navy really is for Pakistan. We have always used the mentality of defending the ports and not actually building a navy that can make any nation think again. Pakistan will not let India dominate the Indian Ocean freely. I wont be surprised and thats what the government plans to do.

What the navy really needs is modern fearful destroyers that can roam around. If Bangladesh was with us today, i bet we would have something that you could call a navy!

China wont have a Base at Gwadar, They will help PN become a potent force and maybe even fund it, But the political, economical and military ramifications for the chinese if they base at Pakistan is high more so for the Pakistani's. Chinese base will be taken as an offensive approach by the US and India.

Mushraff wont do that, rather he would make PN stronger, as he should

4- F22P in my humble opinion webby, a stupid choice, when Pakistan could have selected from other countries. The Thai Navy was so disgusted with the peice of Equipment, they send it back

I doubt your claim, China is going to be coming PN wouldn't be enough to protect Chinese lanes, it will be probably be joint Chinese and PN.

That was back in the early 1990, by then China has improved considerably to a higher standard than before. Also, those sold to Thailand were Type 053H, and the F-22P is the latest. So their is a difference.

Also, Pakistan is going to sign a contract next month for 4 Turkish Milligen (wrong spelling of the name). Which will be a joint development betteen the 2 countries.

ABU DHABI - Pakistan is eager to cooperate with Turkey in the area of shipbuilding.

A Pakistani delegation who visited Turkey in January was informed on National Ship Project (MILGEM) of Turkey. Pakistan wants to cooperate with Turkey in building of minimum four corvettes (warships).

Sources said that Turkey is expected to submit its bidding on building of four warships for Pakistan within this month, stating that a delegation from Pakistan would visit Turkey in April at invitation of Defense Industry Undersecretariat and hold technical talks with Turkish authorities.

On the other hand, Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul, who is currently in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for the International Defense Fair IDEX-2007, held meetings with ministers and general staff chiefs of several countries today.
