Not much worse than Nilekani.

Plus this is not a local election, its Lok Sabha election where the MP's are crucial factor in the formation of govt. A good candidate in a bad party or on leading to a fractured mandate is still worse in the big picture than an average candidate from the party whose leadership will be good.

Want a good guy to look after the local affairs ? People must then go out and elect a good corporator or MLA.

I agree with the view that in a truly secular state, there actually should not be any privileged class first of all. But this is pure theory and in a country like India, application of such theory on practical level is not possible as of now. India was never a secular nor a liberal one ever in its modern history. Religion and caste based politics is nothing new and over all North and South India has been fallen under its grip.

LOL....let me get this straight, you believe that since we are not truly secular and cannot hope to be, we should not attempt practice it either ? ...... truly a Bong "intellectual".

Tell me,what actually Bengali Intelligentsia (not sure what it implies as of today) can do or should have done instead of what they are doing now?

In the past : They could have stopped supporting the communists.

In the Present : They can start supporting BJP instead of supporting a communal party like TMC who leader dance to the tune of muslim supremacists like Maulana Barkati.

However the reality is that the self proclaimed bengali 'intellectual" has failed in the past and continue to fail in the present.

They only try to feel better about their own impotency by projecting their hate on Amit Shah and demonizing him. Earlier it was NaMo but his ride to success has forced these pseudo intellectuals to shift target to Amit shah.

Rise of Islamic fundamentalism is a global problem and the way the blame has been thumped upon Bengal is beyond my understanding.

Let me compensate for your limited understanding by explaining to you.

Bengal has encouraged Islamic fundamentalism by their pusillanimous abdication of any reaction against islamic cultural, social and religious terror. Starting with their soft stand against BD invasion, constant political & moral support to those who oppose Taslima Nasrin etc.

Religion based politics was never attracted the minds of political manifesto writers for several reasons and to be honest due to this apparent "indifference" Bengal have survived some worst riots before which did bleed Northern India to a fatal stage periodically. This situation has been proved to be in conformity with Newton's third law of motion here.

The entire religion based politics started in Bengal with the birth of the Muslim League  It was Bengal who voted on religious lines to give the ML a thumping majority and thus forever divide Bengal. The self proclaimed 'intellectuals' only refused to see this reality and instead retracted into their own fantasy world.

Sure you avoided Riots for some time (postponed), only at the cost of letting islamic fundamentalists call the shots. A much worse evil than some healthy blood letting that demanded justice for all.

The problem and its gravity (Rise of Islamic fundamentalism) is undeniable and even the educated Muslim class, even a group of clerics as well as the general Bengali mass acknowledge this fact. But the way, a national problem and it's solution as become "Bengal" specific is not a matter of justifiable course of arguments.

It is. Because the rest of India has found or is the path of finding the ways and means of dismantling this islamic fundamentalism. Bengal has chosen to live with it (a cowards choice).

People are rampantly blaming Bengalis for criticizing their favorite candidates, segregating (often hilariously) them from rest of India. But don't you think this is a moral dishonesty to shy away from a crime committed with meticulous planning?

There is far more moral dishonesty in claiming false charges and allegations. For the rest of us (non Bengalis) the courts are the final arbitrator.

I have stopped taking them seriously. Especially when most of their arguments don't survive more than two counter arguments.

LOL..........that is why you have a clown like Mamata didi as your chief minister. That is something to think about.

And threatening the minorities, denying justice are your solutions. A true Hindutvawadi after all

I am tired of explaining this. Politics in Bengal has a history. Its pulse is different. I am copy pasting why BJP is failing here. Take a look.
Yes, BJP missed out feeling the sentiments. How? For the bold red part; when Congress introduced FDI retail we cheered for it. Bengal is a agrarian state and FDI retail was a vital issue here. There were immense criticism of Mamata and the left when they opposed it. BJP missed out the opportunity to cash on this feelings of the mass and chose to oppose Congress for the sake of opposition. Now look at their electoral manifesto. They have chose to keep all the possible doors open, which means FDI is still on table.

Next, to build a solid foundation of a political party, what do we need? A bunch of able organizers, strategists? Where does a normal party starts from to produce such leaders? It is student politics. Tell me at least two colleges where BJP students wing have been able to show a decent performance. A party which can't win the youths can't win the old, this is a thumb rule.

What do we need to reach the public? Nothing can beat the media groups in it. There is a zee group news site here. What are they doing for the last ten years? They are preaching CPI M's news and have transformed into a pro CPM and anti Mamata news channel. They don't give a single fcuk what BJP is doing on national platform, not a single fcuk is given to anti Congressi sentiments. This is not how you win people. This is not how you win seats. So this is ridiculous to blame a large group of people for the inefficiency of a smaller group of people, its just brushing off the ineptness under carpet.

BD invesion!! Really? What should we do. Guarding the porous border on our own? When Bangladeshis manages to get voter card in New Delhi you still blame it to Bengal? Nice logic Einstein :enjoy:

@SarthakGanguly @Dem!god @Indischer @scorpionx They say that Hindutva politics is divisive, it will break the nation, and here people are talking about India without Bengal even before the election is over!! Damn!!
No wonder some of our neighbours still expect India to fall apart. :)
dada.....they were always expecting india to fall apart.....
and that too from 1947..but India has only expanded not shrinked.....we should not expect better from them because we know what they think off.....they are the biggest hypocrite country......
but for bengal ..I think the bengali intellectuals need to rise up again...and time to assimilate their glorious past with their future ...rather than to turn leftist and cheer for the pseudo secular agenda........

Asking angry people to satisfy their need for revenge though the ballot is "threatening the minorities" ?

If it is, then I am all for it.

Thank you for your "certificate" .......... you continue to follow the long traditions of "seculars" by graciously issuing certificates ...:enjoy:

Everybody is MODI's fan in this forum

I remember when Elections were being held in Pakistan, Everybody in PDF was supporting PTI including myself. The result was in contrary to this fact.

Lets see ... yeah I too think that BJP is going to be the largest party if not the sole party in the parliament.
If you look at educated(and donot mean just 12 pass but well educated having access to internet etc.) class it will be 80% Modi/Bjp and 20% rest
But majority of voters donot belong to that segment and can be fooled by the Congress' propaganda

Wake up. It is not a final arbitrator. A little bit of outer knowledge would help.

What does Mamata has to do with it?Run out of logic? Do you know which context we were talking about?

You have anyway said India is not secular, so why does it bother you that Hindutvavadis will have the upper hand in what happens in India hereafter?

Yes, it never was. But there were always efforts to make it one and it will continue forever.

@Indischer were these not the same guys who were saying unless Bengal is allowed to eat beef they will demand another partition from India?
