Were any of those burnings perpetrated by a frenzied mob of 5000, after abducting the alleged "witch" from a police lockup? A burning happening by a few men by the sanction of a kangaroo court in some remote village is not in the same league as far as media coveragability goes. Those incidents do get mentioned, albeit more sedately.
5000 is a mind boggling number. To make a comparison, that is roughly the size of an infantry brigade in the Indian army. It did not happen in some godforsaken village in UP where TV signals have not yet reached - it happened in the largest city in the state. Such an incident in any town or city would have got the same media coverage, whether the victim was a muslim or not.
Was the Delhi gang rape victim a muslim? Were the two teenaged girls who hung themselves in UP recently muslims? No, yet these cases got quite a lot of coverage. In fact, think about all the criminal incidents that got a lot of media attention in the last five years, and make a tally of the number of times the victims were muslims. Then you would know whether your assertion has any merit - that it is simply because he is a muslim that everybody cares. No, we care because it was a horrific crime on a hapless person.

The alarming thing to note is that it is not the religious nutjobs who have been talking about illegal immigration and Bangladeshis on this thread. Everybody, including you, have been doing that. This would not be the case if the victim's name was Ramnarayan Sharma.

Yea, I want you to pause and reflect for a moment. Your statement was that it is unfortunate that he became the victim - which implies that the attack itself was not wholly unjustified, it just happened to the wrong person. If somone else was the victim it wouldn't be unfortunate? That's why I asked victim of what. A victim of mob frenzy is always unfortunate.

Tell that to the person I was responding to, who said that the media attention is only happening because the victim is muslim. The media attention has nothing whatsoever to do with his religion.
The rumour that an illegal immigrant did it, flared up their sentiment. & the builup has been happening since 1971.

I am not trying to justify the lyncing, but you stating that religion has all to do with is just bias foul cry.
I am not the one who brought religion onto this thread. I don't care about the religions of the victim or the perpetrators. But I have to clear this misperception that the whole sympathy and attention is due to his religion. No, it is not.
