As regards the objective of the exercise, they said it will enable the Army to validate its war fighting concepts while working towards a ‘capability based approach’ relying on a series of transformational initiatives, concepts, organisational structures and absorption of new age technology.
The Joint Service doctrine was formulated a decade back in the wake of fast changing ways of fighting wars all over the world. The main thrust of this doctrine is to achieve the military and political objectives in the shortest possible time by crippling the war waging capabilities of the enemy through land, aerial and sea-based attacks.
In fact, the Army and the Navy are also enhancing their capabilities to launch amphibious operations and recently conducted exercises in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to test the doctrine in amphibious operations.
Moreover, the Navy has acquired two amphibious ships and plans to acquire two more such platforms which can carry more than 3,000 Army troops, helicopters, tanks and infantry combat vehicles very close to the beach for assault.
Besides this, all three services have gone in for rapid upgrading of their capacity to fight in a network-centric environment, officials said. Giving an example they said all the warships are now connected and their movement is tracked by an officer sitting in front of a computer console in Delhi. This network enables him to conduct a war faster as instructions are relayed within seconds.
