online bravado aside, the facts are that the Chinese leadership have shown much patience in dealing with the diaoyu /senkaku issue and with Taiwan, and have only been more assertive in the SCS lately. Aksai is a barren wasteland, no ethnic conflict, no oil and resources to fight over, there will be no hot war, why would either state commit resources and risk international repercussions for it ?

Well obviously Zhongnanhai does not want a hot war right now, but even they cannot stand against Chinese nationalism when it grows out of control.
