India has its reasons which are very well documented in the US report..and that is terrorism, and not seeing Afghanistan go back to taliban land which it was in 90's under prime Pakistani influence.

India's main interest in Afghanistan includes no taliban (1996-2001) like govt comes into power there again, to keep trade route via Iran (Chanbahar) - Afghan- to central Asian states open. what interests Pakistan has there will be best known to them

Pakistan interest is simple. We want a friendly government there, who don't allow proxies to flourish on his ground. That is what it meant by the term "Strategic Depth".

Given a choice between the Afghan administration and the taliban..I am sure your neighbor will decide to side with the afghan administration which incidentally gets support from everyone including the Americans, Russians, The Iranians etc.

I have always said, Pakistan is incapable of changing their Afghan policy. Not only because their army runs the foreign policy, but mainly because their Afghan policy is rooted in Pakistans own weakness in their side of Pashtun land. This weakness is something no Pakistani likes to talk about, but it is there for all to see, in pakistans support of Afghan taliban, yet their own struggle with Pakistan Taliban.

Pakistanis remind me of that quote about insanity by Einstein. They keep doing the same thing over and over, and expect dramatically different results.

Pakistan's concerns about an afghanistan influenced by indian security establishment are very genuine. Indian establishment has a history of fomenting trouble for its neighbours.

It might be a psychological problem with the Delhi mindset.

On the other hand, afghan taliban are not seen as a constructive force by many afghans especially the new elite. And they blame pakistan for it.

Solution lies in an agreement between pakistan and afghanistan guaranteed by a larger power that afghanistan will accept the durand line and will not host elements hostile to pakistan. Pakistan in turn must guarantee pretty much the same. Otherwise, this boxing match will continue.
