Leonblack, no one can 'give independence to any one', it has to be hugely desired and earned. BD earned its freedom with blood of millions of its citizens and at the cost of a totally devastated nation. India assisted in the freedom struggle of BD. These are historical facts. It is also a fact that BD's freedom struggle was opposed by Pakistan which was supported by the US which sent the Task Force 74 (part of the Seventh Fleet) comprising of the nuclear powered USS Enterprise into the Bay of Bengal to threaten India. The freedom struggle of BD was also opposed by China which moved its troops close to the Indian border and carried out numerous incursions into India, China did this at the behest of Pakistan, which wanted India to be forced into opening another front in the war and thereby forefeit its capability to engage the Pak army in BD. Therefore, the new best friends of BD namely Pakistan and China never wanted BD to be born in the first place. All these are indisputable facts. Why things are the way they are at this point of time, is altogather another story. Is the situation going to change? Yes, there is a very strong public opinion in India to drastically improve relations with BD. How long will it take? I honestly dont know. In the meanwhile, the fact that BD is an independant and sovereign nation today on its way to progress and prosperity, in itself is a tribute to the soldiers of Mukti Bahini and the Indian Army who died on the soil of BD in December 1971.
Regards.
