Development phase and years to go for operational status.

By that time it would be obsolete

. . .
Recently news came about exporting LCA to the nation (who will buy 5th gen fighter jet ) in the lead in trainer category .LCA which is 4.5 gen fighter can be consider as 5+ gen trainer aircraft. In 2012 Germany showed interest in buying tejas in lead in trainer category.
Apart from this india can export LCA to isreal as it is going to induct it's 1st 5th gen f35 jets

.
Tejas is still being developed.
Basic things like bvr, mid air refuel etc pending.

We will have to send tejas via cargo ship
No problem with mid air refuelling is there.BVR capability will be demonstrared in December.

Devlopment phase is complete.Only certification remains which will be completed by March 2015.

.

SP-1(serial production) flown months ago.SP-2 will also fly soon.IAF will induct 40 tejas and navy 9 NLCAmk1.SO that makes the total order to 49.
First squadron will be formed by 2016

Mid-air refuelling is the biggest problem.

Link for december?

And increasing AoA to 28 is still pending. Tejas has a long long way to go before it can be cleared for induction

Deputy Chief of Indian Air Force Flies Light Combat Aircraft Tejas

Deputy Air Chief Air Marshal S B P Sinha on Wednesday became the first officer of his rank to fly indigenous light combat aircraft Tejas and praised its performance, saying it handled "well" on the ground as well as in the air.

Mr Sinha flew the aircraft (trainer version) in Bengaluru where he was on a two-day visit to Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL) during which he took a review of various aspects of the Tejas programme.

"Having had first hand experience and feel of the aircraft, the Deputy Chief of Air Staff said it handles well both on the ground and in the air," an official statement said.

The first flight by a senior officer of this rank was a joyous occasion for all stakeholders, including ADA, HAL, National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) and the IAF among others, it said.

Expressing his happiness, Programme Director (Combat Aircraft) and ADA Direcotr P S Subramanyam said that the Tejas flown by a senior IAF commander indicates the high degree of confidence in the indigenous light combat aircraft
Mere bharat mahan

All the developments are over . It's set to start production from next year . By the same time we will get MK2 which most likely to be bigger faster and better range with 4++ avionics . And the starting orders are just the speculation or assessment on current sinerio. But I really belive it's a common sense to produce in bulk in coming future . Same goes with PakFA . The number er will increase and if AMCA gets matured enough we might go for less PakFA and more AMCA . As India is also 50:50 partners from development to production . . 50% indigenous and it will be increased when the production starts

MK2 will need to be physically modified for bigger intakes and other things.Plus electronics will be upgraded leading to further testing so it won't start production instantly after we make mk1

As for amca,,there is no chance as we will have no money after pakfa, rafale and mk2.
Maybe after 2030

.
Never,,its not good enough
Oh my god .... Are u for real ? Ok why it's bad to order 3 more squadrons of MK1 . It will be and can be used as the stop jap fighter jet . And one more thing tejas not only just fly but can woop the Grass out of enemy. Just to informate you about LCA. As you seems to have Zero knowledge on anything.
