Damn it, the ball was in our court, only if our PM had balls.

Though a good decision, it shouldnt have been told such openly in Public. Our foreign minister is really a comedy piece.
It should always be in ambigiuos way, such that we can supply arms in future if need arises.
Completely declaring no help of support is a stupid declaration to media

Thanks to the bullshit sarkari system of bureaucracy, corruption and non-accountability.

Not sure why this so concerning to you guys. Having a non lethal policy is good policy. It just shows that India is what it has been saying for over a decade now-- just wants to help Afghanistan with education and infrastructure aid and happy to have their future military leaders, all come out of Indian military institutions.

Dost neither our friendship is deeper than sea or higher than mountains nor it is sweeter than honey. We do what we think is right and in our interest. We are not looking for a strategic depth in Afghanistan but a self reliant and independent Afghanistan. We are there to win the hearts and minds of the people and make a difference to their lives not to provide them a short cut to JANAT.

It is not fair to supply big weapons to Afghanistan to discomfort of a paranoid neighbor like Pakistan. So I think it is a very wise decision to say a polite no to Karzai at this point. It would be nice to take Pakistan into confidence on such matters as they are our immediate neighbors. Pakistan has to understand they will never be able to fight TTP with Taliban in power in Afghanistan. So it is more in their interest to use their influence in Talibs to behave like normal humans.

It needs balls to say no to close friends and allies and see long term interest which Manmohan has but it will be beyond the understand of Narendra (Rambo) Modi fanboys.

What do you think about a country spending heck of a lot of money building nuke warheads while its literacy rate is 57%,human development stantard is low,percapita income is $2700 cities lack electricity and public transportation??

Well,our condition is much better and we spend $70 billion an year for poverty eradication and $200 Billion on infrastructure.

The Foreign Ministry of India gets its fixed annual budget like any other ministry and it is its decision on what to spend its money as long as it does its job.

Other departments got the task to eradicate poverty and to further development with their budget... which is large enough to do their work. And they are doing their job... we have achieved enormous successes, we are lifting millions out of poverty, raising the living standards each year (today Indias HDI has achieved medium levels), increasing development spending etc etc etc and much much more ....
Sure there is still a lot to do but adding bit more money wont help....

If money was the only problem, there would be no poverty in most states in India.

When was last census held in Pakistan.
Your government does not held proper census, neither proper taxation ,which was main cause of social inequality, although you argue Pakistan has less poverty. First ask GOP to make proper census then we find real picture.
I heard first time a Govt. calculate population with help of more than decade old census instead helding census.

i see, but wouldnt the smart thing to do be reducing their budget if they are giving out hundreds of millions to other countries after looking at the situation of the indian population?

The FM does what they think is good to improve Indias relations with other countries... its their job to handle diplomatic relations and investing money is part of it... and surely they wont do it if they dont see some form of gains for India in this investment.

Aid programs target the development of schools, hospitals, employment, subsidies etc etc etc

India has enough money and investment potential to tackle most of its problems. Unfortunately many cancerlike factors like corruption, bureaucracy, socialistic policies, politics etc etc etc are slowing down development in economic, social, scientific and other areas.... but still we are among the fastest in the world to improve our situation...
