@karan.1970 There is no problem in posting this news. But there are too many threads. Many times same questions are asked. That makes it difficult to answer over and over again.

There has been a lot of worthy discussion on this topic. A member also posted the type of rapists on basis of their nature of crime and why they become one. It was also backed by research article. So it was quite a good post on understanding the psychology behind this crime and discussion was also done in context of Indian social conditions.

Now you won't be able to read it as it was in some other thread. So it will be great if all the news regarding this incident is posted in one thread.

And this point people can't understand. That's why so many threads.

Both You and I know the intentions of the OP and his past trend of intellectual bankruptcy.. But even his thinly veiled, malicious attempt of scoring cheap points at the back of a tragedy, serves its purpose in contributing to the bigger jolt that Indian conscience needs to come out of its "chalta hai" attitude.. Hence I thank him as even though his intent is idiotic, hopefully the contribution will not be ...

Another genuine thread on a genuine issue and indians are as usual commenting on every thing except the issue-

I fail to understand the society, where female foeticide is a popular but a rape not!

I suppose, issue went out of control because girl died in singapore, otherwise Indian army's nick name is rape army.

We have to look at with a grip on ground reality.

Your statement that I put out in green... you have to analyze it more critically. In the United States, the society does not hound and discriminate with the rape victim. In India's honor system, on the contrary, people look very down upon the victims of rape. End result - fewer actual rapes go reported. Contrast it with the United States, almost every other rape gets reported, unless the victim is a minor who does not even realize it was a crime.

So basing it merely on reported data and concluding that greater number of rapes take place in the US than in India would be a great injustice to the silent rape victims of India.

The second statement of yours that I marked in bold represents a psychology that I loathe. Please do not loose your nerves on that because I have a very valid reason : -

People appear to be more concerned about India's image outside than about the plight of their own sisters. (Hum sab Bharatwasi bhai bahan hain used to be our pledge at Central Schools).

In this particular rape case, it is India's image at stake that brought some justice (whatever, if it did) to the victim. The perpetrators got caught over night, and chances are they won't be shown any mercy. But the fact is, it took no less than a dent in India's image to provide justice to a sole rape victim in India.

Had the people of India been already concerned about the victims more than about the image of India, then this incident would not have happened in the first place.

It is very sad that it took such big efforts on part of the media and the community to seek justice - a fundamental right reserved for the victim.

Rape is as stigmatized in the US and rest of the world as in India. You sanctimonious sermons is a hogwash.

In any society that puts onus on men to provide for the family and protect them, rape is seen as an act of emasculation for the men of that household as well as inability of the women to garner enough respect for themselves. Its a double blow.

Its your arrogance that makes you think international opinion is has brought justice for the victim. The reality is loud demonstrations and anger expressed by Indians has resulted in this speedy justice.

West is always on the look out for articles that will dent India's image...be in toilets, caste system, corruption or now rape. This is nothing new. If not this, then they would pick on something else to malign us.

Yes, in the US, rape is stigmatized, and so are the rapists, but in India, it is only the victim who has to hide from the society.

In the west, almost always the victim garners all the sympathy and the people show solidarity.

In the states, there are countless cases of children dissociating themselves from their father, even changing their names, because he was involved in rape, or women divorcing their rapist husbands.

But in India... hold your breath - Santosh Kumar Singh, a very high profile rapist cum murderer (of Priyadarshini Mattoo), gets married, and has a baby while the case lingers on - what culture does his wife represent?

The media coverage of Mattoo case was even higher than it is now of the recent one... no respite. He gets acquitted!

Would you like to know that despite all the media coverage and protests, what did the judgment say?

Here's charnamrit for you:

the Additional Sessions Judge. G.P. Thareja said, "I know Santosh is the man who committed the crime, but I am forced to acquit him, giving him the benefit of doubt".

For the sake of brevity, I am not listing numerous other high profile rape cases and their outcomes, but if you have any conscience... well, you know how to use the internet.

About time we stop blaming the west or others when we cannot find enough room to hide our fi|th anymore.

Oh, and thank you for telling me how annoying my arrogance is, I might enjoy practicing it some more.

More sanctimonious hogwash.

In every society criminals have to hide from society ... be it rapist, murderers or thieves. There is enough evidence to show that in the 'west' the society blames the girls for rape too. Be it dressing like a 'slut' or being forced to act like sexual bimbo's when they are preteens.

Its is a perverse argument to say any society shows solidarity with criminals. disgusting

Delhi High Court found Santosh Kumar Singh guilty of both rape and murder and sentenced him to death.

As to what kind of culture his wife represents ..... maybe on in which women does not respect other women ? or maybe someone so desperate for a fcuk that they dont mind marrying rapist ? take you pick.....your perverse guess is as good as mine.

You can list all the high profile Rape cases if you have any 'Point' to make ...else its just a rant.

About time we stop blaming the west or others when we cannot find enough room to hide our fi|th anymore.

Its about time you stop blame India to feel good about yourself or to hide your frustrations.

Oh, and thank you for telling me how annoying my arrogance is, I might enjoy practicing it some more.

..No problem.....do practice some more and also expect you to be called out for it.

Now you are acting defensive. Rape is a menace why should we talk about it happening at one place and ignore the other which is actually worse.

Sure do discuss such cases in every country no issue with that BUT do NOT justify gange rapes in India by saying oh look this also happened on Mars.

.
infact you are showing hypocricy by bringing other countries into the debate just because a poster from the opposit side posted data/article about Indian incident.

its all over the world so why you get defensive and show your faceplam by getting offended

No..the west is showing hypocrisy by their sanctimonious name calling to hide their deficiencies. The offence taken by Indians is to their arrogance in assuming they have any moral authority to preach to us.

There is no defensive action here ....India will continue to protest irrespective of what the 'west' says or does not say.

All the genuine posts regarding this genuine issue has been genuinely made in other threads. I genuinely don't want to repeat same old posts as it is genuinely not constructive.

I genuinely ask you to read those other threads where genuine points are made by many people who are genuinely interested in this genuine issue.

Their deficiencies should NOT give us the excuse to feel better about our deficiences. It is as stupid as once a Pakistani minister tried to have a facepalm by saying well look so and so city of Pakistan has less crime rate than Dehli  that is the most stupidest excuse one can bring for faceplam.

yes on the other hand be alerted be informed to point out their faults when faced with them in a debate BUT do not say well you do NOT have any right to point ours because you have same issues.

try to make a block of all against such crimes.

Ma'am go to New Delhi protest and Eve's Daughter thread. Many of us had made important points regarding this issue.

Even you have asked to create a sticky thread on Violence on Women. I have forwarded this idea to MODs and they are discussing about it. Wouldn't you like all issues addressed at one place.

Point is new threads are opened and its counter productive as people restart making cheap posts and we all have to go back to explain same things in a new thread. We are talking about reducing of similar posts.

Is it too hard to understand.

@karan.1970 I totally agree with you. But buddy think about one aspect, if you research and post about this issue on this thread and then another thread is opened with same news, what will you do, repeat the same posts or ask people to discuss on existing threads.

Both you and me know that to reduce trolling one has to build constructive discussion to involve more and more people who wants to really discuss the problem.

I floated that IDEA so you dont have to even ask me the question.

Lets just allow posters with atleast 5000 posts to comment on that sticky thread.

I know man... it is very disgusting to watch any society showing solidarity with criminals... as it happens quite often right here in India. I agree with you, it's very disgusting!

But if you think pointing out the flaws of a particular group/society/community/country is perverse... then I am fine being a pervert.

By the way, your 'sentenced rapist, Santosh Kumar is roaming free after serving 4 months behind bars. I know, in your words it is 'justice served'... but I think differently.

I will blame India whenever I find the fault with it, why are you getting hyper over it?

And vanity, definitely my favorite sin, please do call out my arrogance some more... It entertains me!

1. India does not look at the 'west' for moral guidance, so issue of feeling better about their deficiencies does not arise.

2. Do not drag pakistan into this discussion.

3. 'They' (the west) having same issues or not is irrelevant. They do not have the moral authority to preach to Indians for numerous reason which need not be listed here. Enough to say their opinion do not carry any weight in India.
