India reaches out, wants to upgrade ties with North Korea

Most likely because he is from AP which is disputed by China. So in effect getting NK acknowledging AP as part of India.

I was actually hoping that Modi would take him to China during that official visit just to troll the Chinese. Like I said, our govt. sometimes is unimaginative.

Well, they just made up for that lack then by being imaginative now nah :)

Come on, North Korea? That apartheid regime? We should put more focus for a better relation with South Korea, hope this move won't irk them.
No India would not earn the ire of South.Korea. Delhi has been thawing its relations with Pyongyang for some time now, it began during the congress regime.
I'm assuming India is giving China a taste of its own medicine- reverse pearl string strategy....or something to that effect.

Discipline is something we can learn by observing them. Probably try to implement similar reforms in our society.
Although, I'm unsure, what will we gain out of diplomatic ties.

Forcing you to do monkey dance, looking down at the barrel of a kalashnikov is not what you'd call discipline in a civilized world.

Please, don't talk like @jamahir

Useless intiative

This is a small effort. There is no harm in investing a little in a venture which does not promise high return in current scenario. They had made a gesture and there is no harm in responding that in positive manner.

There are a little more to that, depends upon whether somebody is informed enough or not. I can assure you N.K. is not just about public dances.

No, it is about shunted growth because of malnutrition. Neither I am classifying India anywhere near the level of nutrition an healthy person should get. But looking at the stark contrast between North and South Korea, one must wonder, what the fcuk went wrong?

Of course there is stunted growth and malnutrition and poverty and lack of freedom etc.

But, if I were to improve myself, are those the traits and qualities that I'll be looking forward to or will it be something else.
Why will I close my mind and NOT ask questions like how do they manage to keep so many people together, always motivated and what can we learn from it ? What kind of micromanagement is going on there ?
How is public transportation there ? How do they manage to survive inspite of sanctions in so many forms ? When you have abundant resources, its easy to run your system. Things become tough and challenging when they are limited and thats what one needs to look at and learn from.
How literacy is so high in North Korea ? Can we improve our over all infrastructure for physical training ? How ?
May be, we should look into N.Korea and a couple of other cases and try to keep an open mind to learn.

Ask this question to yourself, Pakistan as an enemy and neighbour is fine, but , "Would you like to see something like North Korea in place of Pakistan ?"

neutral ties with the DPRK are a good idea

the DPRK/RoK thing is not our concern.

why should we follow the US anyway ?

You certainly top the list of the most negative recommendations.

Also, as for DPRK, the relationship won't ever reach any meaning, because it can't. As simple as that.

We are barely able to hold of China dominating our own backyard economically, leave alone getting into their.

Also, strategically NK is so important for China, that you won't be able to do anything there.

There is nothing we can get from them, this ties doesn't serve any purpose.

It is found that North Korea has 2/3 or worlds rare earth oxides.
If India has to move ahead in technology sector, rare earth materials need to be secured. Thus warming up water with North Korea will help in getting access to rare earth materials.

Other than that North Korea has been route to access Chinese technology by Pakistan. A check on North Korea or a deeper access into its system will provide strategic gains with regard to China as well as Pakistan. Also as @levina said, this is part of warming up red wire across the Red Country.

"There are no permanent allies and permanent enemies, only permanent interests".
We should learn a lesson or two from US and Japan.

LOL, I wasn't talking about a strategic partnership with the DPRK to mess with China  what made you think that ?

but the DPRK are not our enemies, we should have some basic neutral diplomatic relations and see if there are opportunities for trade, why not ? :)

and why don't you change your flags to China ? you're not fooling anyone with the flags... another wumaodang
