India Placing Sukhoi's near Pak Border

An unmanned Indian aerial vehicle was shot down by fighter aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) inside the Pakistani territory at 23:00 hours on Friday, a Saturday press release from the Inter Services Public relations said.

The press release said, "The Indian aerial vehicle was on reconnoissance and spying mission when it violated the Pakistani air space close to Lahore."

"One UAV lost contact around 23:00 on June 7 and is believed tohave fallen down within 20 kilometers south-south west of Lahore,"the ministry said in its statement.

Spokesman of the Pakistan government Rashid Quereshi reportedlysaid the incident was the latest example of India's "complete disregard" for "international norms".

NEW DELHI: The Indian Air Force is planning to deploy by 2011 two squadrons of Sukhoi Su-30 MKI multi-role strike fighters in the state of Punjab which borders Pakistan.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, Western Air Command chief Air Marshal N.A.K. Browne said two units of medium-lift Mi-171V helicopters would be inducted in Rajasthan and occupied Kashmir.

He said the air force would continue to operate locally-built Dhruv advanced light helicopters and Cheetal helicopters in high-altitude areas, including Siachen, adding that IAF also planned to buy light utility helicopters for such operations.

The air marshal said the IAF was also planning to improve its air defence units all over Punjab and occupied Kashmir.

‘These (steps) are in tune with our focus to improve all-round offensive and air defence capability, operational infrastructure, and modernisation plans,’ Air Marshal Browne said.

The IAF, he said, was planning to install special mountain and light-weight radars along the 667-km border with China in Ladakh.

‘The air force is examining a special type of radars, which we call the ‘mountain radars.’ We are also looking at low-level light-weight radars. There is a definite plan,’ he said, adding that the radars would be put in place over the next four to five years.

The IAF had already awarded contracts for 19 low-level radars and its Western Air Command was already using some of them.

‘More are in the pipeline. They will start coming online from next year,’ he said, adding that two locally-developed Rohini radars had already been placed on the Line of Actual Control, India’s border with China along Ladakh.

‘We do need to talk to everybody ... every one of our neighbours and at the same time keep our gun powders dry. We should maintain our preparedness at highest levels,’ media reports quoted Air Marshal Browne as saying.

When asked to comment on IAF chief Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik’s remarks that India’s air force fleet was just one-third of China’s, he said the IAF was ‘extremely well-balanced on all fronts,’ like numbers, technology, modern platforms and equipment.— APP

Source? By the way, what stops you from holding a referendum in Kashmir? Yep, that's what I thought.

Sir

As per the United Nations Security Resolution 47, it was recommended that pakistan should withdraw all its forces, tribesman and nationals from the kashmir and India should maintain minimum forces to maintain civil order in order to ensure fair plebiscite. But Pakistan ignored UN mandate and has not returned the so called pakistan occupied kashmir. Thats the reason why voting has not been there. Once you will return the pakistan occupied kashmir, there will be a plebiscite as per the UN mandate.

Any idea how far is lahore from the border ?? don't think so, otherwise you won't be saying what you said.

For you they are terrorist camps, not for us. Plus, no matter what you think, it would be thought of as challenging the sovereignty of Pakistan & its airspace, which will be dealt accordingly as per past tradition, not like the cowardly act of IAF.

Did you read the news paper today. The terms and conditions for the aid have been changed from no attack from Pakistani soil on India to fighting WOT along with neighbors. Now i dont think we would require surgical strikes in future. F16s will do the job for us. let the diplomacy shape up.

India will definetly respond to that with Indian army joining WOT and sending troops to Afghanistan. We can use it as we already have the number advantage. Along with that some more aircrafts in Tajikistan will be good.

Senate votes to triple foreign aid to Pakistan, House expected to follow

By JIM ABRAMS , Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The Senate voted Thursday to triple foreign aid to Pakistan, with lawmakers saying the legislation could change the crisis-driven nature of U.S.-Pakistan relations and create ties based more on long-term interests.

The Senate voted by voice to approve the measure that approves $1.5 billion a year over the next five years for democratic, economic and social development assistance. The measure, a result of House-Senate negotiations, could be passed in the House as early as Friday, sending it to President Barack Obama for his signature.

The bill also authorizes "such sums as are necessary" for military assistance to Pakistan.

As conditions for military aid or arms transfers, the Pakistan government must show that it is cooperating in efforts to dismantle nuclear weapons-related supplier networks, that it is committed to fighting terrorist groups and that Pakistan security forces are not subverting the political or judicial processes of the country.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry, D-Mass., and senior committee Republican Dick Lugar of Indiana, said in writing the bill that the aim was to help transform the bilateral relationship away from the current set of exercises in crisis management.

They said that in past years U.S. aid has fluctuated with political events, sending mixed messages and causing many Pakistanis to question U.S. intentions and staying power.

The final version was negotiated by Kerry and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Howard Berman, D-Calif., sponsor of the House bill, with input from the State and Defense departments.

Kerry's committee, in a statement, said the final bill has the full support of State Department Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mike Mullen.

I would be very interested to see the Chinese response to this Indian move. Any input from our Chinese friends on this forum?

India cant do anything.

If they attack on the China-Pakistan friendship border then China wont sit quiet.

The Chinese wouldn't want the China-Pakistan friendship border to be changed to the China-india enemy border.

Its in China's interest to be connected to Pakistan, or why would there be 10,000 Chinese workers in Pakistan working on dams, ports, airports, railways, etc.. most of these projects near to the place india has placed her sukhois.

Well that would be good move if we can get a base in Afghanistan when we already have a base Tajiskistan. US has already got plans to get Indians involved in WOT. So very well have good relations with Afghans. Already enough has been invested and Afghan can also become the potential defense market for India and friend nations like Israel, Russia and India. Once the US leaves Afghans would need defenses so as to avoid any uprising.

So what is big deal if India is deploying MKIs along with Pakistani border this why these jets were inducted in IAF.

Yes I'm sure Afghans would love to be included in the Israel-India-Russia axis of evil :hang2:
