India knows the importance of getting NSG membership before Pakistan. This will not only legitimize India nuclear status but also nullifies the chance of Pakistan getting NSG membership thereafter.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj while addressing a press conference on Sunday said India will not protest Pakistan's entry to the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

"We are not opposed to any country’s entrance into NSG based on merit, including Pakistan," Swaraj said, according to Indian media.

Swaraj also clarified that China is not opposed to India's membership of the NSG, amid reports of Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar's 'unannounced' visit to China last week to woo Beijing's support for entry to the NSG.

According to The Hindustan Times, Swaraj said China is only discussing the criteria procedure.

"I am hopeful we will be able to convince China as well [over India’s NSG membership bid], I am in contact with 23 nations; one or two raised concern but I think there is consensus," Swaraj said. "We are trying to ensure that India becomes a member of NSG by the end of this year."

India has decided, with the help of state governments and cabinet ministers, to reach out to almost all countries in the world by the end of 2016, Swaraj said.

I have already confirmed the same in the following thread. The fact that EAM is now making that commitment public implies that there is confidence in that agreement.

India has already comitted that it would not be blocking Pakistan's application in return for China not blocking India's.

Thanks for your advice, Pakistan already using its diplomacy for its membership.

Let NSG decide.

Pkaistans case is already in NSG and it will be taken up by NSG memebers tomorrow.

But it will be a NO for both countries at least for this session.

You missed the masterstroke because you diplomats suffer from brain stroke.

See what happens here is: India says "it does not have any problem with any country getting in; let's have a vote for who would get in". Voting takes place for India and Pakistan-India gets in, Pakistan does not. Simple.

Had India stated that it is against Pakistan getting in, it would have look bad on India and harmed Indians bid too (negative campaigns does not work, as only sworn enemies would side against a country, though they would have no qualms in siding with it. Something which Pakistanis does not seem to understand)
