India must not politicise cricket: PCB Chairman

.
I remember that boycott quite well and national solidarity was the last thing it created. Despite initial public poll support, that quickly evaporated and it was disastrous to the Carter administration. His boycott was the subject of late night talk show jokes. Carter was perceived, (correctly), as a weak and ineffectual leader. It divided the country, not unify it.

No, not unrelated, but completely useless as well.

Here's the thing. Cutting sports and cultural ties is essentially a way of penalizing Pakistan for the frequent terror attacks that they sponsor and direct at Indian people. India hopes that the resulting financial losses to the sporting community and the artists of Pakistan would eventually lead to them (and their fans) encouraging their own govt to stop supporting these terror attacks.. Now, you might argue whether this is effective or not, but that's the idea..

Its similar to how Pakistanis say - “We'll only allow India transit facilities through our country if India solves Kashmir issue in our favour" . Although ideally, trade shouldn't be politicized, but still Pakistan uses trade and transit as a diplomatic leverage against India. Similarly, India uses sports as a diplomatic leverage..

Unfortunate for your country, but it worked in mine. Along with the fact that the boycott happened because the Soviets invaded a country that did not affect the American way of life for the general public.

No, not unrelated, but completely useless as well.

These are actually not useless developments. Since you are a military professional, you are used to reading news such as this, so you know it doesn't make sense to solving the core issue, but the general public is not.

So if you are to build public opinion about something, you will have to involve the public in taking a beating. That's why even the ban on entertainment worked.

Now, the public on both sides are part of the equation, not just the two govts. While it may not be important to the Pakistanis, the Indian govt has to develop and present a case that allows an anti-country stand. That's also why the Chinese keep fanning the public outrage against the Japanese. It shows a rival country that the issue isn't something that can be resolved through backdoor talks.

There's also nationalism. The Indian public is nationalist. Even without govt intervention, the public unanimously called for a boycott of Chinese goods through social media and it worked. They were angry at the Chinese blocking an anti-terror resolution on Saeed.

Public opinion is the reason why Trump came to power as well. Public opinion is also the reason why people are living through demonetization without raising a sound.

So managing and controlling public opinion matters a lot. You guys learnt that during the Vietnam War. The Chinese learnt that after Tiananmen.

Politics 101.

Cricket was politicized since nineties when PM from the country used to visit the stadium, instead of helping the game it has actually killed the sports.

And we know India is culprit of it as there are some pseudo-nationalist group threatening Pakistani side not to come in India:angry:, Pakistan is actually very innocent on this front because from last 7-8 years there is no international cricket played in Pakistan, sorry/apology I forgot Zimbabwe did came for a paid series.

So nobody can blame Pakistan, it is very innocent.

Which is another testament to why these silly boycotts don't work in the first place.

Would you prefer your family and friends are getting killed in one part of the globe while the people you are trying to protect are having fun with your enemies drinking and partying?

Funny world you live in.

Like I said, if Pakistan is doing what it is accused of then break off all relations and go to war or at least declare a state of war exist, but don't tell me how not throwing a cricket ball at their batsmen is somehow proving something.

NUKES..!!!

Going to war is counterproductive for us. It'll scuttle India's growth and lead to a loss of many lives.. Banning Pakistan's cricket team and artists costs us absolutely nothing..!! :-)

Cricket is like religion in the subcontinent. It proves a lot of things. It's one of the biggest tourism and revenue generators for the subcontinent.

We will go to war if something big happens. But the issue is then it will set a precedent, that nuclear war is okay.

We have a plan to disable Pak nukes, once that's done, then why not?

India must not politicise cricket: PCB Chairman

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan said India should not politicise the game of cricket.

It may be mentioned here that PCB had signed a MoU with BCCI to play six bilateral series between 2015 and 2023. Four of those series were to be hosted by Pakistan and the six tours pending a legal agreement will include up to 14 Tests, 30 ODIs and 12 Twenty20s.

The first of these bilateral series was to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year in December but it did not happen as the Indian Government didn’t give a green signal to the BCCI for the series.

Recently PCB had also demanded financial compensation from BCCI and ICC for losses incurred due to India’s refusal to play bilateral series against them.

Speaking to media, he said we will not request India to play Pak-India series. “We will have a clear cut talk with India on the matter of the Pak-India series,” he said.

He said India has violated the MoU of Pak-India series.

“Indian government does not want the Indian cricket team to play with Pakistan. Pakistan will present its point of view on the matter in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting,” he said.

No Mr Chairman. You are wrong. You are very wrong. The indians are free to do whatever they want as far as their cricket is concerned. It is their prerogative and right. It's got absolutely nothing to do with us.

Here's the thing. Cutting sports and cultural ties is essentially a way of penalizing Pakistan for the frequent terror attacks that they sponsor and direct at Indian people. In the long term, it will be ultra beneficial to Pakistan should india completely cut ALL ties with Pakistan and completely seal the border too.
