No it cant. Arjun is very heavy and slow.
We really need to induct these mini tanks asap. J/K
BTW Sirjee,
Indian and Israeli tank design philosophies are different. They keep Engine in-front and their tank serves as role of infantry carrier also, both characterstice which would be useful in Urban warfare but are of no use in open warfare la Indo-Pak style.
Do you think a joint product in this case may be developed?
But going it alone brings more benefits in form of knowledge gained and industrial capacity developed, and in situation where you face no imminent threat from your enemies, it is a better way to proceed. Whenever you make something anew, you will face difficulties; incremental improvement is easy.
India squadron strength may have suffered due to delays in LCA, but IAF was never under threat of being outgunned by PAF.
A product developed by joint venture would be used by both countries. So how would a common tank reconcile with different design philosophy of India and Israel.
@Abingdonboy @Capt.Popeye
FMBT was supposed to be a lighter tank than Arjun ie less than 55 tons
How will this goal be achieved considering that Israeli Merkavas and Indian Arjun tanks
BOTH are heavy at 62 tons
Does Israel have the experience of making a lighter tank
FMBT would certainly be a heavy Tank. Trend in whole of world is gravitating towards heavies. Even Russian tanks are gaining weight.
Arjun is heavy because it is a 4 man crew tank.IF army agrees to 3 man crew tank with auto loader than weight can be brought down to upto 55 tons.FMBT was supposed to be a lighter tank than Arjun ie less than 55 tons

No one has to compromise their design philosophies. Like I said it is about building on each other expertise, there are areas Israel is superior and areas where India is- combine this into one product and you will surely have a world beater. Given this is India's FMBT and not being targeted for use by the IDF then naturally it will be design from the ground up with the IA in mind.BTW Sirjee,

This was said a long time ago but there is no doubt the FMBT will be heavier than the Arjun Mk.2 this is the trend the world over for MBTs. There was a period when people assumed that APS and ECM would allow for the introduction of far lighter MBTs but now this has been abandoned and more and more armour is being put on the tanks increasing the weights. The FMBT will be no different.@Abingdonboy @Capt.Popeye

Nahi yaar; those are not "mini-tanks".....they are "bombshells" that can destroy any tank.
