India may face pressure to cut duties on 90% of goods traded with China

First time I learned that Indian universities are that great, tell your students stop coming to China.

Only students that want to study medicine come to China. Not because chinese colleges are better than Indian colleges but because if you dont get medical seat under govt. Quota, medical education is ridiculously expensive in India. A pvt medical seat costs almost 1.2 cr or 200,000$ in India, even when you are ready to pay that amount there is hardly any guarantee that you will get the seat as there is severe competion. Where as these same students can complete their medicine in countries like china/russia/ukraine/phillipines relatively cheaply at a cost of 40,000-60,000 $. IMA (Indian Medical Association ) used to conduct a test for these foreign educated students and only those that passed the test are permitted to practise in India. Not sure if things changed recently. By this I dont mean chinese universities/research in their universities arent great/ Indian colleges are better than their chinese counterparts just that craze to become a doctor in India is ridiculous.

Those who do not qualify here goes outside to be Doctors and to get other degrees. We can not let our standard down to such level. They either goes to china or russia and gets degrees. Other countries such as US , China , Russia and Europe has a very poor standard of education (Except few universities) compared to India so they may fit there. Here they will remain unemployed.

I'm a complete outsider in this, but what objective facts are you using to support this part of your argument?

Who told you so? How come you send more students to China than to your former master Britain? They all study medicine? you must be kidding.

Tsinghua Named World’s Best Engineering, Computer Science School
Oct 25, 2017
One of China’s elite educational institutions, Tsinghua University in Beijing, is the world’s top school for both engineering and computer science, authoritative ranking survey U.S. News & World Report announced Tuesday.

While Tsinghua has previously held U.S. News’ top spot for engineering, this marks the first time the school has overtaken the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to be named the world’s best in computer science. Tsinghua was also ranked sixth in materials science and 10th in chemistry.

Other Chinese universities to be ranked highly for engineering include the Harbin Institute of Technology at No. 6 and Zhejiang University at No. 7. Zhejiang University also made the global top 10 in computer science, behind ninth-ranked Hangzhou University of Science and Technology.

U.S. News & World Report evaluated 1,250 universities in 74 countries for its 2018 rankings. The top four overall spots went to U.S. institutions Harvard University, MIT, Stanford University, and the University of California–Berkeley, in that order, with the U.K.’s Oxford University rounding out the top five.

Tsinghua, meanwhile, ranked fourth in Asia behind two Singaporean universities and the University of Tokyo, and 64th overall, just ahead of Beijing rival Peking University.

“The schools that rank the highest in the Best Global Universities rankings are those that emphasize academic research, including by partnering with international scholars to produce highly cited articles,” said Robert Morse, chief data strategist for U.S. News, in the company’s press release.

For its 2018 global rankings, U.S. News said it placed greater emphasis on international collaboration, rewarding schools that partnered with their foreign peers to write and publish papers. Other variables considered for the company’s rankings methodology include research reputation, number of publications, and citation frequency.

China is the undisputed world leader in engineering industry and we also have the fastest computers in the world, it's just so natural that our schools for those fields are also the best in the world. Indian schools are nowhere in sight in the rankings but they still claim that their schools are better than China's in qualification, but can we say, that's Indians.

because my sister is currenty studying medicine in India and is in her last year internship. While she was preparing for her medical entrance test, my father was looking at colleges outside India if my sister fails to clear the test. One of my father's colleague's daughter did her medicine in china and cleared the IMA test in her second try( this is some 5 yrs back story). A junior from my school days is currently studying medicine in Jilin University in china. So I know things first hand. Popularity for medicine in china among Indian students is a recent phenomenon before that most students used to prefer ukraine or some other eastern european countries.

Coming to the second part Medicine in UK is costly compared to china/India.

India and indians have a great zeal of learning. Every one here want their sons to be doctors and engineers and management professionals. However , we maintain certain standard. Those who do not qualify here goes outside to be Doctors and to get other degrees. We can not let our standard down to such level. They either goes to china or russia and gets degrees. Nobody will give them job here, Better they settle there and earn their livelihood. Other countries such as US , China , Russia and Europe has a very poor standard of education (Except few universities) compared to India so they may fit there. Here they will remain unemployed.
Your standard even in your nation's capital city?

Your family experience make you think all Indian students only study medicine in China?

China's strength is not medicine yet, it's engineering and computer science, most students coming from developing countries are studying those majors in China.

I didn't say only medicine but mostly medicine. Though Chinese universities are better than Indian counterparts in engineering research why do you think an Indian prefers chinese over a western university, when he speaks English and has zero knowledge of mandarin ? There might be Indians studying engineering in china too, but that number would be really small.

.
I hope India can improve their university rankings in the world. You can think greatly of your schools the whole world thinks otherwise. Chinese universities advance rapidly in this regard.

East Asian families are more so just in case you don't know, Confucius himself was an education whose thought was the foundation of East Asian culture.

Why India fared poorly in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings

So far as ranking of universities are concern, it is a different matter all togather. It generally focuses on fecility the university and campuses have and not the quality of education.

Our IIM may not be the top management institutions but to get into it, you require highest GMAT score in world and you need to be academically most brilliant. You need to be more academically brilliant than anybody else in the world.

Even our not very reputed institutions have produced many top CEOs of most reputed institutions of world.

I'm a complete outsider in this, but what objective facts are you using to support this part of your argument?

This is evideant from many facts.

Many of the top CEOs and top executives of top most companies are headed by Indians.
Indian diaspora , wherever they are among the most educated , most law obedient and richest diaspora anywhere in the world.
Indian doctors, business professionals, educationist are very very famous and outnumbers any other diaspora in percentage anywhere.
To get admission in top Engineering, Management and medical institutions, you need best acadamic background compared to anywhere in the world (See above link I have posted)

I wasn't arguing about the Indian diaspora though. My question had to do with your statement about US and Europe having a "very poor standard of education compared to India".

You're new to this forum and especially to this particular chest thumping and bravado by our Indian members on this forum but you will get used to over time. However to let you know that it is not just one odd guy doing it online to troll others etc, it is much bigger and deeper psychological disorder...a mental disease found in around 800 million people in that country. Do you know that India had internet, cellular networks 100s of 1000s of years ago? So all this story we hear about US DARPA inventing the internet is bullscrap... It was India that invented the internet and that too millions of years ago and the claim comes from non other than a minister who is a good friend of the prime minister

Furthermore, they had spaceships travelling in the intergalactic space more than 10,000 BC....and it is all mentioned in Veda. And yeah Germans (in Hitler's times) stole the ideas from Veda and invented all those inventions and same goes for Albert Einstein. So my mate, India is the most advanced country in the history of this planet rather the universe..because India existed even before the solar system was formed....
Mate, you've signed up for a life time of journey of shocking revelation that will shake your previous beliefs...you know all the lies fed by the West about science and technology...

It is evident from the fact that what academic brilliance you required to get admission in Indian top engineering school, management school or in medicine is much higher that anywhere elase in the world.

Wait, i d not have access of many thing from where I am posting this comment. I will revert back in great detail in evening or by tomorrow. I will post videos of what curriculum in math is taught in India and in Europe and US. I have seen the papers of math Olympiad in India and the similar one of UK. There is absolutely no comparison. Many of my relatives whose children were performing very ordinary here are excelling in UK and in US.

There are no objective facts to support his argument. Mostly anecdotal. I will wait for his rebuttal.
