What's new

India lower caste still removing human waste

yes sir SC/ST are majorities now
no sir , they are not....The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes comprise about 16.6 percent and 8.6 percent, respectively, of India's population (according to the 2011 census). http://www.censusindia.gov.in/2011census/hlo/pca/pca_pdf/PCA-CRC-0000.pdf
yes sir bulk of genral quota jobs are not filled deu to varus resons like corruption
actually the jobs reserved for the SC/STs etc are not filled in absence of qualified ppl or as u said, corruption. If general quota jobs are lying vacant, all hell wud break loose.
well there is a bais but it has more to do with lack job & educational opportunities for geral catagorry and illogikal govt quotas to feul there vote bank politicks
i think it was there from the beginning but recently it has spilled over to "lack of jobs" pretext.
in villages children are segregated, made to clean toilets, wash utensils etc ; are definitely not due to the bias resulting from "lack of jobs". but yes , there is no denying the fact that innocent general category guys are falling victims to the system which was initiated to help the heavily discriminated population. can we term it as collateral damage and dismiss. I bet the genuine victims wud disagree, rightly so.
now there might be a solution to the caste based quota system (CBS)------quota system based on financial status (FBS).
but alas, corruption will mar that too, since its easier to fake a "no income certificate" than faking being of "SC/ST". thus in the FBS system, rich ppl will make merry and the SC/ST ppl who are poorer , will continue to remain poor,,.....and the cycle shall continue for another 1000 years.

no there is still caste system in india but not even a fraction what pakistnies think of
does it matter what pakistanis (majority, definitely not all) think ??? they think that they will conquer india n stuff.. and morever wud u fetch a bucket of water only when ur neighbour raises the alarm, esp when ur own house is on fire ??......

sorry....too many ??? marks

. .
You are right when you say It has nothing do with the caste.... But when you look at the reality most of them will be from a lower caste, because they are poor and had to force themselves to do a job like this.

One should not look at caste while dealing with such issues, Authorities should do whatever possible to uplift these guys...... Feel sorry for those guys

Well it is about the low cast peoples will and interest to moving forward like any other Indian.I have a friend which happens to an SC cast but his family regularly pay their taxes to the government because both his parents have high Govt jobs.
His great grandfather might did the same job like in article in kerala .But his descendants become rich.Only one reason their interest to use their opportunity.

Latest example is our PM:He is not a Brahmin ,not an uppercaste .But he created his own way by hardworks.
Once all of our peoples get education things will change.Look at the pld woman in that article ,we are not sure about whether her grandchildrens and Childrens doing the same job.

.
Indians are more concerned about treatment of Hindus in Pakistan than their own country. What a joke of a nation.

.
why dont you call a high cast Hindu as a bhangiiii?

Well if the person is employed as a sweeper, then he/she will be called a bhangi. If he/she is not employed as one, they will not be. I have generally not gone on to inquire the caste of people employed around me. Also I have never called one as such. The men and women who get employed in cleaning services in our offices are called "cleaning boys and ladies" and in general on the streets are called "pourakarmikas." Also the general way to address anyone here in South is "amma" or "appa." So if you were to address a street sweeper, you would call the person "amma" here in South and "bai" or "bhai" up North.

Likewise Pakistani's are more concerned about the problem faced by muslims in India.... Does that sound good to you????

Let us not make sweeping statements based on few posters, there are similar posters from every country......Yes there are posters who dont stop from taking cheap shots, but then that is not done by Indians alone......

SC/STs are some what better now in Kerala..Go to any government/village/muncipal offices or supplyco, triveni quite a lot of employees are from this community..
i think, the most neglected groups are poor minority adivasi tribes of Kerala..They are not a vote bank,so the politicans are not considering their matters seriously...
haven't you read the article about the recent pattini maranam in Attapady??..

Saving whom or what from humiliation? The people I referred bring a lot more humiliating stuff to their fellow countrymen. I don't have to quote them, just follow their pathetic comments about their own countrymen and you will know what I am talking about.

Are you talking about me as saffron razakar? If so, how did I explain in terms of class struggle?

That is why i said let us not look at the caste, but look at the people who are forced to do this job (when i say forced i mean poverty)..... I dont think it will take a lot of money to help these poor men/women, and our govt can afford to do that,

sir u talk like scheduled cast people in india live like sh"!@, well i can tell u that's not the cases ,there is reservation for lower cast & tribal people in almost every governmental sector

Got to agree with here, In kerala they are better off, if not a job like this, even the other skilled jobs like, carpenter, mesan, painter get minimum of a 500 rupee a day (which is roughly 8 dollars), But as you said attappady and muthanga are 2 prominant places where we have tribes, and those people live atleast 3 decades behind us....

.
How many castes exist at all? I always thought that 4.

No you cannot help them just like that. They and their families need education and so many other things to uplift them which will take years. The govt just cannot pour money on them and overnight make them rich.

How many castes exist at all? I always thought that 4.

There are only 4 varnas or 4 divisions of the society. Within these varnas there are thousands of subgroups.

Actually aadivasis are there in every districts of Kerala, except Alappuzha...Mostly in vayanad( district (35% of population)....

I know it will take time to uplift them as a society, but if govt decides they can rehabilitate one member of the family and put them in to some job or help them get one...... That will be the beginning, once they earn decent amount from other jobs.....
