i don't remember many burqas twenty years ago in india... the rot set in with khomenei's death "fatwa" against rushdie in 1989... and then the origin-in-india tableeghi jamaat began spreading in the late 90's in offices and colleges and schools, and then the confluence of satellite tv and internet let them spread their poisons wide.

there is reason why socialist societies censor communications and media.

in modern times, i find very less muslim ladies in films and on tv... a few like huma qureshi in films and few like shafaq naaz on tv...

Not many women used to wear it long back, the trend started very recently.
