India-Iran, Qatar SeaPipeline Not Possible without Pakistan's Approval

The seamount could now fall under Pakistan’s control
Great. Moderator Can I insult this fellow now?

This delusional, traitorous article which appears in the delusional (and traitorous) 'New Indian Express' is written on the premise that Pakistan has territorial rights in its EEZ. OCGS does indeed 'now fall under Pakistani EEZ'......................

Which still doesn't make an iota of difference. Pakistan can still not do jack squat to prevent India's growth.
BTW OCGS is an 'alternate' route. The main route is yellow.

Two options exist for the transportation of Natural Gas through the SAGE Pipeline System:

The base case originates in Oman at the Middle East Compression Station (MECS) and ends in India at the Gujarat Pipeline Receiving Terminal (GPRT).

There will also be an Offshore Gas Compression Station (OGCS) about 300km from the Omani coast on top of the Qualhat Seamount (Murray Ridge), which is ~3000meters in height, where the depth of the water is reduced to approximately 400 meters.

Now read this,,,,,,,,,,,,,, slowly.

Article58

Rights and duties of other States in the exclusive economic zone

1. In the exclusive economic zone, all States, whether coastal or land-locked, enjoy, subject to the relevant provisions of this Convention, the freedoms referred to in article 87 of navigation and overflight and of the laying of submarine cables and pipelines, and other internationally lawful uses of the sea related to these freedoms, such as those associated with the operation of ships, aircraft and submarine cables and pipelines, and compatible with the other provisions of this Convention.

PREAMBLE TO THE UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION ON THE LAW OF THE SEA

Pakistan can do squat to prevent this pipeline. Your territorial water ends at 12NM. You cannot prevent India or anyone else from laying down a pipeline even 13NM outside your coastline.

Sure then go ahead and lay that pipeline without Pakistan's approval.

Lets see what happens then.

And why would Pakistan allow the terrorist state of india any such pipeline in its EEZ?

You seein this Mr.Moderator. Unless you insult them, they just don't learn.

. .
Pakistani think EEZ is their personal property lol, they can't stop India from building a gas pipeline from there , Pakistan have right only upto 12NM from their coastline, only thing which is stopping India is the availability of funds which India will have in next couple of years

As I wrote earlier, go ahead and lay that pipeline without Pakistan approval.

Prove us wrong, :-)

Oh wait, the economic Supapowa suddenly has "lack of funds" now. Can't even spare few billions,

What do they say about sour grapes?

Pakistan already stopped them once. Check your history class rather then Law books. Which aint going to help you since it failed last time so will this time.

.
Make peace with Pakistan and you can have all the trade you want. Until then application denied.

The Route - Transportation of Natural Gas through the SAGE Pipeline System

We did take a sh!t on your pipe dream back in 95... The EZZ is part of Pak shelf hence you can't do jack about it.. Apart from the UN & US sanctions!

Enjoy .. There is Pak taking a dump on your dreams :

A UN resolution last March has dashed India’s hope for a natural gas pipeline from the Middle East. Internal assessment is that a proposed deep-sea gas pipeline from Oman and Iran would run into a diplomatic roadblock following the UN approval.

The $4-billion deepwater pipeline was proposed by South Asia Gas Enterprise (SAGE) from the Middle East — bypassing Pakistan — after the onland Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline got stuck on New Delhi’s decision to backpedal on the project because of geopolitical and security reasons.

The sea route was outside Pakistan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) to transport up to 1.1 billion standard cubic feet per day of gas from Chabahar in Iran and Ra’s al Jifan in Oman to Porbandar in Gujarat state with a spur line to Mumbai later.

“Route under finalisation for the proposed pipeline will have minimal political risk,” SAGE had claimed in a presentation to the Petroleum Ministry in May last year.

However, that situation has changed after the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) extended Pakistan’s seabed territory by another 150 kms on March 19.

The extension of the continental shelf from 200 nautical miles to 350 nautical miles would give Islamabad special rights with regards to exploration and use of marine resources, including energy production in the area under its jurisdiction, also described as its EEZ.

India’s assessment is that Pakistan, which is not a beneficiary of the sub-sea pipeline, was unlikely to allow the pipeline to cross its exclusive economic zone as in 1995 when Islamabad blocked a proposed deep-sea pipeline from Oman to India because it crossed its exclusive economic zone.

Under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, coastal nations are allowed economic control of the waters and seabed up to 200 nautical miles from their shores. They can further claim an extended shelf up to 350 nautical miles from the baseline of sea if they prove that the claimed area was a natural prolongation of their land.

The second problem that could crop up is that the SAGE project hinges on an offshore gas compression station on Qualhat Seamount (Murray Ridge), about 300km from the Omani coast. The seamount could now fall under Pakistan’s control and the station can be set up with Islamabad’s approval, said officials.

An email sent to SAGE on May 7, seeking its comments on the problems highlighted in the wake of UNCLOS resolution, remains unanswered.

The onland IPI pipeline has not taken off despite negotiations since 1995. India withdrew from the project in 2009 over security issues, gas pricing and gas volumes. Iran blames India of dropping out under pressure from the US.
