India, France sign $6 bn deal on Surface to Air Missile

Has Pakistan inducted China FM90 QRSAM? As I know, BD had inducted the FM90 system at the end of year 2011.

Anyway, I think 6 billion is way much expensive. 6 billion equals to 42 billion RMB, what the Focker! Means we can build 3 CBG.

Very good point. These deals probably have more than what meets the eye.

Not an Indian version, but possibly similar to Brahmos, where we take the hull (at least the design should be similar to MICA) and the propulsion from a foreign partner and add the seeker / navigation parts, in this case from the Trishul SAM development.

This was shown earlier as possible Maitri SAM:

Are you sure, I mean seeker from Trishul...........????

It cannot be overstated how badly India needs these sort of systems. Faced with a possible 2-front war, opponents with rapidly modernizing air forces who have (cumulatively) numbers on their side. If you look at the ADS in India up until recently-even still today, it is made up of mostly pathetic, outdated Soviet junk. The reason India needs to spend such colossal amounts in almost ever area of the military is because for almost 2 decades the forces were neglected and deprived of funding and new equipment.

If things had been better in the '90s then this $6bn deal (and other major deals) could have been spread out over a decade of orders but now it going to be all up front.

India is having to play catch-up at a serious pace now.

The fact that increasingly such deals are the result of a JV is just the cherry on top.

Also such large size deals also show confidence of political and defence establishment to deal with so called super powers. As they say ticket to high Table diplomacy isn't cheap and for those who say that india is in (some kind of arms ) race, the only race is that of catching up.

France is our new Soviet Russia. Nuclear deal , Rafael, submarines and now this. The best thing about the friendship is there are no strings attached with any goodies. If I am not wrong they refused to sell any weapon to Pakistan earlier.

i have gone through all the posts of the thread, and came to the conclusion that most of us have missed the actual part,
"ITS COST OF THE PROGRAM. INDIA & FRANCE WILL HAVE A JOINT VENTURE. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS MUSTHAVE BEN FINALISED & MUTUALLY AGREED. THE SAHRE MUST BE 50:50 SO INDIAS CONTRIBUTION WILL BE ABOUT $ 3 BIL."

from french news agency .

Taking advantage of the state visit of 48 hours François Hollande in India, New Delhi announces the completion of discussions on a contract of around 4.5 billion euros for the development and production cooperation with Indian defense industry a surface to air missile of new generation, SRSAM.

In India, there is not the Rafale ... even if the fighter tricolor often occupies all minds in France but also in India. MBDA The European missile (37.5%EADS , 37.5% BAE Systems and Italy's Finmeccanica 25%) is close to signing a mégacontrat India for the supply of a new missile developed in cooperation with the Indian defense industry, as The Tribune announced already.

According to a statement by Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's, New Delhi announced that it had "concluded negotiations on missile SRSAM (Short Range Surface to Air Missile, a surface to air missile next generation), which, once approved by the government, will be co-developed and co-produced in India. " A contract of about $ 6 billion (4.5 billion euros), according to Indian news agency PTI. Prime Minister welcomes "the welcome change in arms sales with the implementation of a policy of co-development and co-production of defense equipment in India which will help expand our local production and strengthen the partnership policy between France and India. "

EADS is in India on the signing of two contracts in 2013 the missile SRSAM (or previously Maitri) and A330 MRTT tanker aircraft. Its subsidiary MBDA has been waiting for this beautiful year contract, which should swell, according to our information, the backlog at 1.8 billion euros, to co-develop and co-produce with the Bharat Dynamics Limited surface to air missile new generation. "The negotiations were completed in December 2011 and the program is past the defense council in December 2012, we had told the Tribune before the defense exhibition in Bangalore. Suddenly, there are too many steps to more happen. " The statement says nothing more than what happened at the council of defense in December 2012. But India took the official visit of François Hollande, who began an official visit on Thursday morning 48 hours to display policy. As for now, the contract has not been notified nor signed with the manufacturers concerned, according to our information.

SRSAM program builds on the work done by the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) and a technology transfer from MBDA to fill gaps in the Indian industry. Eventually, it is planned to produce about 2,000 missiles SRSAM by Bharat Dynamics Limited. This system of air defense meet the needs of the Air Force and Navy.

3 CBg?

Cost of 1 CBG is more than 8 billion dollar

so......

20 billion rafale

24 billion for nuke plants

6 billion missile deal

4 billion mirage deal

2 billion tanker deal

2-3 billion submarines

2-3 billion extra..

more than 60 billion deals in coming years

The partnership began in 2007 as part of the umbrella government-to-government agreement between India and France on missiles.

The ownership of the Maitri programme will be fully Indian. With baseline technologies from the now defunct Trishul SAM programme, the Maitri programme basically envisages the sale of certain key technologies by MBDA to DRDO (seeker, endgame avionics, thrust vector control, propulsion modifications), though production will not be under a corporate joint venture on the lines of BrahMos, but would rather be carried out entirely by Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL), India's state-owned munitions production agency.

The Maitri is being built in two basic variants -- a ship-borne point defence and tactical air defence version for the Navy and a land-based self-propelled (wheeled and tracked) launcher-based system for the Air Force and Army.

After 1998 Nuke tests, only France didn't impose sanctions on us. They are trusted allies like Israel and Russia.

Agree..

French have most independent foreign policy. And more over the greatest gift of France to world is "Modern democracy" It was french revolution which carved concept of "Modern Nation state" with "Life Liberty and Humanity".
