Misplaced priorities? Should've rather invested in that single invention, the toilet!

But...Why is this news ridiculous? I believe the ancient Bharatiyas were far more advanced in science than we are today.
That however does not take away from the pressing need to improve the science, technology and lives of Indians today.

May be they were, but who knows. There is no proof of the process to preserve a dead foetus in ghee is in fact related to stem cell research or the proof of the fact that the chariot without horses are related to present day cars. May be they were just imaginations of the authors, like so many others we have throughout the history, which ultimately came through as a reality in the last couple of centuries.
The point is, it is going to instill wrong, unverified assertions in the minds of the children who will be studying these books. You don't want your children to answer "Valmiki" when asked "Who invented the car, beta?". That will sound stupid.
It would be an insult to our(Indians) intelligence to think that teaching them that ancient Indians whose history has long been forgotten and erased, the only account of those times is from epics would make them believe that a car was invented by an Indian. No, a few people at that time did some work in science (and maths). Doesn't makes them more advanced than today. What they did than is largely taught in school. At basic level.
Though the topic is how some morons shame India.

Millions of pupils will be taught that stem cell research and the motor car originated in ancient India, after one of the country’s biggest states approved text books written by a controversial right-wing Hindu nationalist.
The seven books by Dinanath Batra, which include a foreword by Narendra Modi the prime minister, will be supplied to 35,000 schools across his home state, Gujarat.
Academics say the volumes represent a brazen and factually incorrect attempt to “Indianise” world history, and that they also encourage pupils to join the RSS, a far-right Hindu organisation

Ancient India made first cars, pupils told | The Times
No we were on Mars say 5000 years ago..........................So apparently, India is only returning to Mars after say... 5000 years?
Don't know about stem cells research but ancient India was indeed advanced than other contemporary civilizations.....
Most of what we know as Arab science and inventions were actually Indian knowledge picked up by Arabs while trading and passed on to the Europeans..........like the Number System and symbols we use today, which the Europeans call 'Arabic numerals' since they picked it up from them while the Arabs call it 'Indian numerals'...........so, anyone with common sense can understand from where the number system actually came.........but since everyone thinks only Europeans can be correct(don't know why----may be because they are white), the rest of the world accepts it as 'Arabic Numerals' ..........
Another example being the 'Aryan Invasion Theory', which many Indian historians proved as wrong........but we still teach it as it was 'coined' by the Europeans.........
Those are just few examples how Europeans distorted History both intentionally and unintentionally......and we accept their version without any doubt.........
Therefore, not fantasies but things should be taught after proper research and logical analysis.........we don't have to rely on fantasies, we have enough real achievements to be proud of.........
