SEOUL: Ahead of the Nuclear Security Summit here next week, India today voiced concerns over Pakistan's nuclear programme saying it has "very little confidence" on the capabilities of its western neighbour on securing its atomic assets.

"We have very little confidence that their nuclear programs are secure or will stay safe," sources said when asked about the security of atomic materials in Pakistan.

The possibility of "insider threat" was the prime concern among the Indian establishment and building capacities would be the key element in India's pitch at the Nuclear Security Summit which begins here on Monday.

"The real problem is the insider threat," the sources said talking about Pakistan's nuclear programme.

The sources cautioned that the fissile material could get into the hands of terrorists, who could use it to make dirty bombs.

They said an insider could be a person having legitimate reason to hold and control nuclear materials but who could also do the same for illegitimate purposes.

Multilateral meetings, like the Nuclear Security Summit, help in building capacities and building cooperation with countries but each country needs to shoulder the responsibility of protecting its own nuclear assets.

Concerns over nuclear security have heightened, particularly in the wake of the Fukushima accident, as officials fear that fissile material from such crippled reactors could fall in wrong hands if proper steps were not taken to secure it.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to unveil before the Summit the steps India has taken to tackle challenges of nuclear terrorism.

i must say already the CIA and the chinese security agencies are having a close watch on them(including RAW and mossad)... the moment, terrorist try to get their hands on it, i believe US forces will have to fly in again....

The problem is India started a nuclear arms race by refusing to sign the NPT and developing nuclear weapons. Pakistan had no choice but to develop their own to ensure MAD deterrence.

The real problem for india started after china conducted N weapon test and the US threatened with nukes and its nuke carriers in 1971..
We had no choice but to go nuclear//...

why yindoos & yankees are so much desperate to know our security measures in detail

No, China is entitled under the NPT and as a UNSC member to possess nuclear weapons. Besides, India was always under the Soviet nuclear umbrella. Developing nuclear weapons was incredibly irresponsible.

This is about Pakistan..Why are you bring china every time when the discussion is only related to pakistan??
i think you feel very insecure without china to your existence..:azn:

What? NPT was signed in 1968.

correct. we went nuclear because of you and US. so you started it and we had to.
moreover- topic is not about the arm race. read the title if you don't believe it.

No, the understanding always was that the UNSC could develop nuclear weapons, and other countries would be protected under the nuclear umbrellas of others, usually the US or the USSR. India broke this understanding when they refused to sign the NPT and decided to develop their own.

lets spare china from this thread.
secondly- its not only India but many are concerned about your nukes. they are not safe and may be the US will come back with the navy seal again without your knowledge.

point is- its not only India who is concerned.
