What's new

India building supercomputer with target in top 10 within next 3-4 months.

Do you really think we are trying to downplay India? I would always support a developing country over a first world country when it comes to these matters.

That said, until last year Indians would always make fun of China's supercomputers because they used Intel chips.

But since the current number 1 supercomputer is using Chinese domestic chips (Sunway/ShenWei chips) they've lost the ability to use that argument. Maybe India will reach that point too, if they decide to put effort into it.
Indians know the path they are travelling and we know the priorities.
Trust me India is going to lead the world!

Unlike china we know exactly what our goals are, what needs to be done and what are the objectives.

We are not that insecure to throw some pathetic tantrums at others just to make ourselves feel better.

The link you posted is referring to the 2015 list.

You can check the current list anytime you want, just type in top supercomputers into your search engine.
I corrected your post, post four with the link. Right now in office, so will reply in evening with details.

I hope you are in tiny minority among educated Indians. You are rather clueless. I suggest you to read a new article in ET. The writer has just opposite view, and he wrote with logic.

Well, any Indian that could make super computers now works for Intel or in other Silicon Valley companies. They are no longer in India.
And here comes out Chinese aka Taiwanese resident troll. It must be aliens who have built Indian supercomputers. We feel terrible while replying in any thread where you are creating dirt. @waz @Zaki is there no way this person can have logical discussion in any of threads especially related to india?

Best wishes for Indian, hope their supercomputer get done soon!!

To be fair, Chinese news report the Sunway supercomputer or even Tianhe II supercomputer AFTER it was done and testing for the ranking. India news report they are going to have a supercomputer will rank in top 10 in the future!! by that time, may be there will be some other supercomputer being build. Hope India's will still in top 10.

Future is in process to become present in 3-4 months. Hopefully earth is not going to be doomed in such a short span of time.

National Supercomputing Mission
Modi government puts road map in place for National Supercomputing Mission
By Priyanka Sangani, ET Bureau | Updated: 15 Jan, 2016, 11:27 hrs IST

  • National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), an initiative aimed at improving India's capability and capacity in supercomputers, it is getting ready to move from the planning to the execution stage.

A technical advisory committee is in the process of finalising a detailed roadmap to take the mission to the next level, said Rajat Moona, director-general of the Centre for Developing Advance Computing (C-Dac).

The centre is spearheading the project along with the Indian Institute of Science-Bangalore."Under the NSM, we are focusing on three things: creating better infrastructure, becoming more application-oriented and investing in human capital," said Moona. One of the key areas of focus is improving the supercomputing infrastructure, and this is where it would be aligned with another high-decibel government initiative, Make in India.
"At present, most of the components for the supercomputers are procured from outside. Over time, we are aiming to make over 50% of the super computers in India," said Moona.

Only the mechanical infrastructure is now made in India. Moona said while the chips would continue to be imported, they were working towards developing and manufacturing the electrical hardware and cooling systems domestically. The NSM is being jointly implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) at an estimated cost of Rs 4,500 crore over seven years. Of this, so far the DST has released Rs 85 crore and DeitY, Rs 25 crore. Moona is hopeful that with the national budget coming up, more funds will be allocated towards this mission, which would accelerate locally growth.

In order to speed things up, manufacturing would happen in multiple stages. In the first phase, manufacturing will start based on existing designs while the second phase will involve doing the product design locally. The team is currently in the process of making proposals for the technology advisory committee to review. What is interesting is that this time the focus isn't restricted to building the supercomputers, but also creating applications that would benefit from it.

The organisation is in talks with various government and private groups to collaborate on applications across 20 areas ranging from astrophysics and astronomy, weather modelling, drug discovery to government applications like bioinformatics.

The NSM was announced to empower academic and R&D institutions across the country by connecting them through a supercomputing grid of over 70 high-performance computing facilities. These supercomputers will also be networked on the national supercomputing grid over the National Knowledge Network.

That's true!! But instead of aiming for top 10, India should go for more number of supercomputers with respectable(top 500) computational power!!
As of today India has 9 supercomputers in top 500..and ranks 7th (by number).
India can easily achieve that goal....provide one super computer for every premier university in the country....these universities have enough grants and funds....ask them to pay 50% of the cost and remaining by the central government!! In couple of years you can have Atleast 30 in top 500!!

One guy told me that how Indian super computers shall be very fast. He told that India is developing flexible bus architech . That will make computers very fast consume only 10% of power.

Best wishes for Indian, hope their supercomputer get done soon!!

No we are building the fasted one with more than 500 time faster than anything today. We do not want anything less than No 1 position here.

Yes, Chinese in last 30 years only allow one child policy. Why? it is a sacrifice for a greater good! Chinese like to have big family like Indian, but for a greater good, people willing (some don't) support the government.

Current NO.1 is Sunway, at peak it runs 125,435.9 TFlop/S, so your 500 time faster, will be 62,717,950 TFlop/S at peak. Let's wait and see.

India can't grow like that.. So we will be slow.. So how can we compare todays China with India in socio- economic terms??

I will be happy if we make it to Top 50.

hmmm.....developing flexible bus architech ..... be careful, you may leak a very important information for other competitors.

Chinese are their guests, reporting won't do.

The rivalry between Indians and Chinese will only help them.

trolls need to earn their cents.
I don't see that way. Even Pakistani posters have been banned on my reporting by Pakistani mods. All unhealthy posts should be reported and that's my contribution to the forum, rest is upto mods whether they modify the post, delete it if not as per forum rules and banning of poster based on severity of post affecting forum environment.
