What's new

India building supercomputer with target in top 10 within next 3-4 months.

I mean any real source, like the actual official lists that I have been linking.

Yes I can believe India had the 2nd fastest supercomputer in the world in 1991 (India's economy was larger than China's in 1991 for example), the question is how did they fall completely out of the top 100 list today?
Tata's computer was 4 th fastest in 2007.. Same was 9th in 2008..

It wasn't the 2nd fastest supercomputer, not ranked among top 200 fastest. Anyone can claim any speed until proven and tested.

It was a HP supercomputer, HP Cluster Platform 3000, rebranded as EKA by Tata.

Building your own vs 3rd-party, that's my point. But the title still goes to Tata.

Not just HP and IBM, Japanese ones too.
Yes but blades, nodes, number of CPUs or GPUs etc are decided by 3rd party although the vendor is from outside..There is the difference comes else everybody would have been using same computer with same processing power..

We thought "indigenous" was supposed to be the source of all prides, no?
There was no budget allocation since last decades on producing such supercomputers..All were bought from foreign vendors & assembled..
Indigenous products will come soon once we utilize the budget that has been allocated now..

Well, any Indian that could make super computers now works for Intel or in other Silicon Valley companies. They are no longer in India.
That's true!! But instead of aiming for top 10, India should go for more number of supercomputers with respectable(top 500) computational power!!
As of today India has 9 supercomputers in top 500..and ranks 7th (by number).
India can easily achieve that goal....provide one super computer for every premier university in the country....these universities have enough grants and funds....ask them to pay 50% of the cost and remaining by the central government!! In couple of years you can have Atleast 30 in top 500!!

man its always amusing watching the Chinese trying to downplay India

I don't know but why they really feel butt hurt when hear such news from India..!
It's really astonishing.

Do you really think we are trying to downplay India? I would always support a developing country over a first world country when it comes to these matters.

That said, until last year Indians would always make fun of China's supercomputers because they used Intel chips.

But since the current number 1 supercomputer is using Chinese domestic chips (Sunway/ShenWei chips) they've lost the ability to use that argument. Maybe India will reach that point too, if they decide to put effort into it.

As expected Chinese trolls started burning and throwing some illogical rants here.

They know what they have built based on cheap imitations won't give them status or their regime cannot project any soft power outside china.

Just be patient for 10 years we can see world class cities with R and D hubs in India.

gee.... thanks for that patronizing tone. Did it make you feel better about yourself ?

Maybe china will some day be a better place for humans too .... if you decided to put effort into that.
