Cops, reporters panic after Iqbal Town blasts

LAHORE: Residents were not alone in panicking after Friday’s successive blasts in Allama Iqbal Town, as journalists and police personnel were left confused and scared as to when and where the next explosion would occur. A large number of policemen, journalists and the area’s residents surrounded the first blast site in Iqbal Town, with law enforcers asking civilians to back away after the second explosion. The blasts after the first two saw policemen and journalists follow ambulances and rescuers, unaware of what was happening around them. Several policemen were seen to be hesitant after their superiors ordered them to lead them towards the site of the third explosion. staff report

It takes more than 8 explosions in 12 hours | Lahore Metblogs

As if it were news, all of us shook our heads in shock after hearing about twin suicide attacks in R.A.Bazaar this morning. Although the apparent target were the military vehicles passing through that busy route, dozens of innocent civilians became casualty to the vicious intent of bloody terrorists. The total count of victims has totaled about 39 people while injuring another 95. And that was not all of it because the terrifying morning was followed by 5 explosions, one after another, in various locations of Iqbal Town. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the second wave which happened all in a span of about 1.5 hours and allegedly caused by grenades hurled by a person riding a motorbike. Police has claimed that all 5 of these explosions were of low intensity and caused by planted time devices.

With deep sorrow, we should console and pray for those who became victims of terrorism in Lahore today. Our prayers are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives. May their souls rest in peace… Inna lillahe wa inna ilehe rajioon!

TTP has claimed responsibility of today’s blasts according to recent media reports. All Pakistan Traders Association has announced all markets in Lahore to be closed tomorrow i.e. Saturday, March 13, 2010.

Regardless of what happened today, one thing should be made clear to those behind such cowardly acts, and that is the fact we’re alive! and they can’t kill of all of us whatsoever they may try. As long as we keep our resolve of fighting this menace and exposing the real elements behind these incidents, we can never loose the battle.

Hence, our advice to everyone would be: be careful in venturing out to crowded and sensitive places but don’t stop living life your way for it takes more than what happened today to break our spirits…

God bless the souls of the deceased… Amen!

Pakistan on Thursday accused India of covertly supplying weapons to “militants and terrorists” in its Balochistan province from Afghanistan.

Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir told reporters here that there was “clear evidence of (Indian) activities prejudicial to Pakistan’s security being undertaken from foreign soil, including efforts at destabilization, supply of weapons to militants and terrorists”.

“We have ample evidence, including photographic evidence, of these activities.”

Pakistan has “solid evidence” of India’s alleged involvement in fomenting unrest in Balochistan province and the government is taking up this matter diplomatically with its Indian counterpart, Interior Minister Rehman Malik claimed on Friday.

Malik made the remarks while talking to the media at the parliament.

“We are not levelling mere allegations against India but we have solid evidence of Indian involvement in Balochistan. The weapons recovered from various areas were Indian-made,” he alleged.

Afghanistan’s soil is being used to destabilise Balochistan and President Hamid Karzai, who visited Pakistan this week, has given a commitment that Afghan soil will not be used against Pakistan, he said.

The Indian government has denied allegations by Pakistani leaders that it is behind the unrest in Pakistan.

Replying to a question, Malik said no targeted killings were being carried out in Karachi but there was a “conspiracy to pitch religious groups against each other”.

He warned banned sectarian groups not to mar the peaceful atmosphere of Karachi, saying stern action would be taken against them.

Lauding efforts by clerics of different schools of thought to foil the “conspiracy” hatched by anti-state elements, he said, “We have intelligence information that money has been disbursed to pitch religious groups against one other. Chidambaram rants and raves against Pakistan in the India Cuntcave, the paid off members of the India Caucus rail against Pakistan, and a series of terrorists attacks are carried out in Pakistan - all coordinated with Karzai's visit to Pakistan and news of Pakistan engaging with NATO and Afghan players to stabilize Afghanistan.

These are terrorist attacks carried out by India through its minions in Pakistan - the TTP and other assorted scum.

India should not be dragged into this without any supporting evidence. Till date pakistan has not given even a milligram of evidence about Indian involvement in pakistan.

Last heard from pakiz was they do have evidence but they will share it at appropriate time. I hope that appropriate time is not 2260 AD. All and all dellusionary tactics by establishment to portray India as the source of all ills of pakistan and therby divert masses attention from their misdoings like supporting taliban etc

The Hindu : News / International : Pak Minister sees RAW hand in Lahore attack

A Pakistani Provincial Minister on Monday alleged that India’s RAW was involved in the suspected suicide car bomb attack in Lahore, even as federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik claimed “signatures of India” were there in weapons seized from militants in the tribal areas.

Punjab Province Law Minister Rana Sanaullah alleged that India’s Research and Analysis Wing intelligence agency was involved in Monday’s suspected suicide car bomb attack on a special investigation unit that killed 12 people.

“Besides other neighbouring countries, India’s RAW agency is also involved. Israel and other countries could also be involved,” he told reporters in Lahore.

At the same time, Mr. Sanaullah claimed militants against whom Pakistani security forces were conducting operations in the Waziristan tribal region were behind the terrorist attacks.

He claimed these militants were being backed by “foreign hands”.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Malik identified India as the “foreign hand” behind several attacks in Pakistan.

Asked by reporters to identify the “foreign hand” behind the attacks, Mr. Malik said: “I have identified it several times. All the weapons are coming from Afghanistan. The signatures of India are very much there in weapons seized in (Pakistan’s) tribal areas.”

Mr. Malik said Pakistan would present “evidence” of India’s alleged involvement in the attacks whenever talks are held between the two sides.

“We have compiled the reports and evidence and whenever India sits for talks, we will raise this issue. We have also raised it several times and will continue raising it.

“That’s why we say India should come to the negotiating table and both sides can present their reservations and proof,” he added.

Mr. Sanaullah was in news recently for meeting and travelling with leaders of the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba terror group while campaigning for by-polls in Jhang district of Punjab.
