An anti-Naxal operation involving close to 40,000 security personnel was launched today in all affected states today with an aim to strike at the root of Maoist formations and cadres.

The four-day operations, led by paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was started at the crack of the dawn at 4 am from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and other states.

This is the first time the forces, both central and state, have launched a coordinated operation to flush out Naxals from their interior hotbeds.

"The operation has begun today and a huge deployment of joint forces has been made. The idea is to scramble all the forces at one time so that Naxals cannot flee into neighbouring territories if they feel pressure by the security forces in one area," CRPF chief Dilip Trivedi told PTI. Officials said all the states, which also include West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are part of this maiden offensive being undertaken against Maoist groups.

The proposal was recently mooted during a meeting of police chiefs of all the Naxal violence hit states and the results of the four-day operations will be analysed threadbare and a decision to undertake such offensives in the future would be decided.

The operation is being coordinated by CRPF with other forces like ITBP, BSF, SSB and various state police forces. Close to 40,000 personnel have been mobilised, especially along state borders, to take on the Naxals, sources said.

The forces, according to sources, have asked their senior commanders to be on ground and all the operations are coordinated not only at state police headquarters here but also at the CRPF directorate here.

Enough quantity of arms and ammunition has also been made available to the forces while a fleet of BSF and IAF helicopters have been positioned by air droppings and

evacuation.

Initial reports did not suggest any casualty on the forces' side but few Naxal camps have been busted, they said.

good step but i would like to see some action against the root cause of naxalism in the near future. till then happy hunting :guns:

40000 for 4 days is not simply enough.
Make it per state for 1 month and we will be done with the problem for years.

If I am remembering correctly this thing was suggested back in 2007 :hitwall:

Maybe this is a test case. We have never undertaken such a massive op inside India before, so they need to analyze how it turns out, have a thorough debrief, and learn lessons before doing another, longer operation.

But one state at a time will not work, their cadres simply cross the state boundary when things heat up in one state. A concerted operation was long overdue.

Anyway, happy new year, naxals - if you live to see it.:nana:

where has it written 4 days ?

Celebrate when each and every naxal is killed and the whole area is under guv.'s authority and supervision......something to be learned from lanka(operation in 2009)

A very good move .

These kind of joint effort is required to root out this menace .

When Sri Lanka crushed the LTTE in 2009, the LTTE was a conventional army, and it was a conventional war. For the decades that the tigers fought an unconventional guerilla war, SL was not able to eliminate them. The naxals are still a guerilla army. Let's see if we will have better results than SL did.

Trust me even for a test OP 40000 for 4 states in not enough. I can speak for Maharashtra if 40000 men cover 100 sq km in 4 days in those forests it would be a Herculean achievement.

I am not saying to do it separately in per state. I am saying put 40000 in every state and give them time of one month to meet at rally point ;)off course I would have loved to see IAF in this OP as bolt from sky than just a eye in the sky

Difference is thinking in GOI & GOSL.
They term them as terrorist and we call them off stream ideologists.

May be bad journalism, 40k troops for just 4 days is stupid
Thats what I was saying. But may be a validation OP for command and control. And results will decide the next course.

well if there is political will...these guys can be wiped out in not more than 48 hours....we have that capability....but we hesitate due to vote bank politics, international response, collateral damage and many other factors....
