Create something called 'Permanent Residence permit' for children of Afghan or Bengali migrants born in Pakistan.

With this permit they can get same benefits as citizens, can go to school, work and live like normal citizens - but cannot hold political office or join the army.

Better than handing out citizenship to millions who feel no loyalty to the state.

Opinions? @PaklovesTurkiye @Indus Pakistan @PAKISTANFOREVER @Imran Khan

This is better then giving them citizenship. But give permit to those who were born in Pakistan and didn't go back.

Think beyond party lines for once.
I do think beyond party lines. Yes there are 4 million Afghanis in Pakistan and yes this suggestion came from certain elements with in PTI but this has to go through parliament and those elements of PTI will not succeed. I never think on party line I always think about Pakistan first. Now one question which no one has answered what to do about all those Afghanis born in refugees camps?
The major push of Afghanis came after 9/11 deport those back home about those old heads from Soviet war let them stay. This could be a stable decision.

Many Afghans are against Pakistan but many are also standing with Pakistani interests even in Afghanistan. We have both allies and enemies in Afghanistan we have to entertain both. Reject the enemies and accept the friends.

Afghanistan is not so different from us but also not same so we have to maintain a very fine line in this issue.

Now will any one give source of the story?

.
Anyway majority of them are born in Pakistan, that should make them eligible for Pakistani citizenship if they want to take

.
Hi brother...Actually, None of both.

Actually he linked street crimes of Karachi to illegals and refugees residing in city. He's saying illegal Afghans and Bengalis are doing this because they are poor and undeveloped community given they have no NIC....means no job and other facilities as other Pakistanis have

Thanks bro....he has a point, but why not given them another status rather than citizenship? It is my opinion no one that got to somewhere illegally should be allowed to vote....ever. In fact if anyone has done anything illegal (i.e crime), they should not be allowed to vote after that.

Can give them work permit/resident status for time being or something so they dont have to resort to crime...and set up special courts to vet them and issue deportation orders over time if they do not meet certain criteria.

Yes this is sort of like I was suggesting just now.

What do you mean by another status ?
Will Pakistanies be happy if they are treated the same way abroad

I would expect Pakistanis or anyone else to be treated the same if they got somewhere illegally or are refugees etc....i.e to not expect or demand citizenship, and not have some politician/leader where they went to to offer it to them for whatever reason.

Yes a society should decide what it can afford in hosting a population (either illegal/refugee etc) w.r.t employment etc (given camps tend to cost more money) with a temp resident status given...but they should never offer citizenship imo (Esp a leader acting against mandate of wider society). It creates slippery slope dynamic (i.e rewarding and consolidating illegal and/or unnatural migration from then onwards).

Just look at the welfare shopping (and much worse) so called refugees are doing in Europe on the back of political/elitist dystopia w.r.t the citizenry....and a developing country like Pakistan with little wealth is to do the same? Its lunacy.

He is worsting our nationality what at it left a respect this will bring pak at destruction

For the time being, issuing some kind of permanent residence card will at least allow tracking of Afghans, until the war in Afghanistan ends. They work in Pakistan, so they should pay taxes, and in turn get education for the children, and healthcare for their families.

Think of this like the US/Mexico immigration issue. We are building a wall on the border with Afghanistan, and manning it to minimize unauthorized border crossings. Currently we don't have a full count on how many Afghans are in Pakistan, so a permanent Residence Card will help gather data, and track their activities (registering SIM cards for cell phones to this ID). The Children will have to go to school, and be taught to become Pakistanis; Assimilation.

When the war in Afghanistan ends, there will be years of organized settlement of these new permanent residents in Pakistan. They will not want to risk losing the benefits of life in Pakistan to go back to an underdeveloped and unstable Afghanistan.

This will not silence the enemies, but at least bolster the influence of the Afghan friends of Pakistan, particularly in the border regions along the border (specifically Pashtun Regions).

I personally would support this move if its not done just willy nilly...

There shud be a clear vetting process...criminals and anti Pakistan propagandists and off course militants shud be rejected out right ( and thrown in jails)

Any one born in Pakistan and with education skills and ability to pay taxes plus women and children without Alive male relative shud b primarily given citizenship...

Unskilled born in Pakistan can be next in list ... those born outside but living on pak for long can be offered permanent residence...

Bangalis dont have war at home so shud be deported... Beharis are stateless and shud be given citizen ship...

No one pays direct taxes in Pakistan let alone afghanis who only harm our indirect taxes by doing smuggling. Pakistan already is over populated. 220m and we are not even counting 8m overseas Pakistanis who can come back anytime.

Not to forget this will not stop here but more afghanis will come because Afghanistan is hell on earth and in near future Indian muslims. We can't even settle our poor slum dwellers in cities let alone take so many foreigners who have nothing to do with Pakistan.

Citizenship isn't a joke. Many of them already got forged CNIC, all that does is increase ethnic nationalist vote bank and continues civil war in the shape of TTP/PTM.

Good move. People born in Pakistan and lived here all their lives cannot be considered foreigners and should be given nationality.

Give them some kind of legal residency status. In the mean time fix the tax collection among our current citizens, enforce border protection to prevent smuggling, get people back to work in the farms and factories by cracking down on corruption, and then if the economy picks up, you will have Afghanis who are living in Pakistan anyway, assimilated enough to be considered for citizenship.

Just like French Algerians, if you don't give a pathway to an honest living, they will be the people that can be used by our enemies. If you kick them out they will smuggle themselves back in. Best to give them some legal status, so you can track them, and assimilate them.

Tunnel vision galore! Every argument from the dustbin of history and contemporaries. Pakistan is neither a Mideast oil producing sheikhdom neither a western capitalist country but the arguments here will surely make it seem as such. This country first needs a place in its own neighborhood where currently you have one side a Shi'ite Iran and on the other India... the only country with good ties is China with whom there is little to no on land trade and then there is a void a country which was kept a buffer between former Raj and Russian Kingdom both of whom do not exist. Soviet union collapsed 30 years ago and Pakistan has little trade or cultural ties to central asia who could be an excellent source of hydrocarbons and other minerals besides a land route for trade there and beyond... yet guys think they be rather living on an Island and be the kings of the world as well.

That's the thing though, there is no border control. They can come and go anytime they want. This is why they tend to be criminals/terrorists, it has little to do with CNIC. Its because they have one leg in Pakistan and rest of body in Afghanistan. They can do what ever they want in Pakistan and get away with. Did you know in punjab south western districts after murder people used to move to FATA, live there 5-6 months and come back. By that time police and family of victim have moved on and they reach settlement. And we are talking about people from punjab here, who eventually have to come back.

This is why every province think they are security risk. Why do you think Peshawar and DI Khan banned afghani entry in Muharram week?

More importantly Afghanistan behave like enemy state and have yet to accept Pakistan borders.
