Hi All,

I'm looking for a guard dog. Could you all suggest what is the best breed to guard my house?

Pls note I don't want a pet, nor am I interested in spending a lot of time with it. And ideally it should suffice with very less maintainance.

Pls suggest.

Dogs are animals, not machines like bike. Even a bike needs maintenance. Dogs need regular care and love and play, just like a human being. I am having dogs for last 15 years, and I can tell you they are the most faithful creature but you should not be taking that for granted. If you think guard dogs don't need any of that, then you are gravely mistaken and if you go ahead, you will regret your decision. You should not get a dog.

Dogs, are by their nature very high maintenance. Even good guard dogs require regular care and maintenance. If you are looking for something low maintenance then not only are you being unfair to the animal; you are not getting a guard dog but an unstable one that will attack anyone including your family if it feels so.

A good guard dog like a Doberman will set you back at least 80k for a well trained dog and then monthly 9k. But this dog is not going to be there to play with children or you. Only follow direct commands and be perfectly obedient. They will sit, walk, bark and attack on command. They will be alert all night and not let the slightest noise get past even if it is a friendly.
When they attack, they will go for the neck or vital parts at the very least.

I'm not much into dogs but I think they need regular walks, proper meals, clean water and daily shower. What else?

What I meant was that all of the above will be taken care off by a person who works at my place and not me or any family member.

How about Kangal's, those are originally shepherd dogs from central Asia, they dont need you to go for a walk as long as they are kept outside and they are huge and intimidating.
But they are quite expensive as far as i know, you have to import them from Turkey, its not a very widespread breed.

I'll try to explain. Humans recognize a boss. Dogs recognize a master.

The person who takes the dog out for a walk, feeds him, provides food, water and shelter, plays with him in the outdoors, is the master of the dog. Now, as you said, if you can get somebody else to do that for you, then the dog will recognize him as master and will be faithful towards him. If the dog spends enough time with the household, then the dog becomes attached to the family as well. But that is not your case. So, if you are okay with that, then go ahead.

oh bro do not give then daily bath, they need daily brushing of there hairs and bath is given every few weeks. secondly you need to spend your quality time with them so that he develop a bond with you and then he will be much more fierce in guarding or duty you wish him to do

I am not looking for an obedient dog, I just want that when I go to sleep at night, I can unchain him and he would atleast alert me if somebody tries to break in. My house has a lot of agricultural land on the back side and the only think separating them is an 8 foot wall.

Also note, that I have enough space outside my house and he can be taken to a walk or roam freely by himself.
