What's new

I'm looking for a dog!

Caution : Rottweilers and German Shepherds should not be present in a house where there are new born babies or small children.
These varieties have the tendency to become jealous over love shown on infants at home as they are possessive towards their masters which will end in the dogs attacking those infants.
Please be careful....

I would agree about Rotts. Did tell Rafael the same in an earlier post of mine as well.

Not GSDs though. Can you say why? I have rarely if ever heard of GSD attacks on kids.

Rotts and dobermans yes.

Yes, dobermans also are in the attacking list.

Dobermans are exceptionally temperamental. Though I've had friends with very docile sweet ones as well (coincidentally, bitches).

What about GSDs but? They are magnificent loyal and hugely protective of kids. I've seen kids put their hands into their mouths, ride on top of them like a horse, etc.

They keep tolerating.

Dobermans, Rottweilers, GS and Labradars are risky.
I have seen/heard cases for all four.

labradors are play dogs, wont bite even the thief, instead play with them

i once stamped my uncle's lab, fully...
he excused me..:D

I heard an entirely different experience.
My friend's lab was possessive and became very aggressive towards his newly born niece.

Hi,

I have read that some breeds of Doberman have serious issues---something to do with the growth of their brains---.

The dogs need to be introduced properly to the children---remember----the child is going to be taking the place of the dog.

The thinks of you as his mom and dad---so what it may become now as SIBLING rivalry---.

Remember---dogs have to be raised with children for them to treat children properly----.

The most important thing to understand is---that German Shepherds----are a wolf breed----. When children are waving their hands and look distressed with the dogs attention---that is when the problem happens---suddenly the dog's mind snaps into the hunter and prey mode----the hunted animals make wayward motions with their bodies and make sounds that are distressing in nature.

My two german shepherds were babies when I got them---so far they have been wonderful with the children----.

Rotts and Doberman are pure guard dogs----. The german shepherds are also friends.

Absolutely.

Its very imprudent introducing a full grown dog to a small child.

Plus dogs are big on seniority. My lhasa is king tut around my two rotts because he is older. Of course once he pushed it too far, and the older rott had enough/was in a bad mood/whatever and grabbed him. But other than that the hierrarchy remains.

Best for the kids to take an active part in bringing up a pup.

im not sure if u bought one or not.

get a GSD.

Dont chain it, you will only frustrate it. It as natural guarding instincts that can show even at age of 4 months.

get a non-pedigreed from a pre mature litter puppy that will cost you around 30-40k.

give it boiled meat after age of 3 months or some good dog food.

potty train it as soon as you get it.

train it to walk on your left side always. dont let it pull the leash when u take it on walks. if it pulls, stop and wait it for to get in settled and stable state.

discourage it to jump on you and other family members.

for guard training, make a ball of old used clothes, tie it fastly at end of stick so dog can grip that ball of clothes in his teeth.

use a long leashto hold the dog and ask a friend to tease the dog with that stick. let the dog grab and bite the cloth ball area.during this time, only teach the dog to let go on command 'NO'. this is the first and most valuable command that the dog should know when to stop and stop at first command. it can save life of an innocent human being.

if you want your dog not to eat from a strangers hand, then from pup age, give the dog food only in one steel bowl from which the dog can eat all his life. dont ever throw food on ground for it to eat. now tell a friend to give the food to dog in a different bowl and when the dog starts to eat , tease the dog with the cloth ball and stick again. the dog will never a trust a stranger with food again.

remember that the dog thinks of you and your family as its pack but it must know that you are the pack leader. some dogs bite owners or owner kids especially when the dog is eating food and u get too near because then the dog is thinking that dog is pack leader and human is subordinate to him. To ensure this never happens, show the dog his worth and low level by first letting the dog see when u eat your lunch or dinner. after u and family have finished their meals and the dog has watched u eat, then give the dog its food. in the pack the leader eats first. this way the dog gets to know you are its pack leader.

anyways i can give more tips. let me know if u need. i have kept many breeds like GSD, labs, rotties, dobes, bull terrier, bully, spitz, gaddi kutta etc and trained them.

Dogs don't 'roam freely by himself'

They need training and constant human support. They need to be taught who is friends and family and who is not. If you keep your dog unchained, then you risk getting him poisoned. People will throw in food or something to knock your dog out. Or very worst case, they might hit him with a bullet or tranquilizer. If you really want dogs, get at least a pair like Doberman, German Shepherd or Rottweiler.

But you will always need to provide human input to them, you will need to take care of them and adore them.

If you can't do that, then either get a good rifle and become a good marksmen or hire a guard.

Dude, Dog has been around human for 5000 years, where ever human are so are dog, they depend on human for food and human depended on them for security. In modern time you can provide them anything your heart desires they cannot say no, they cannot say sorry I am a dog these things dont matter to me...you know why? because they cant speak. You cant send them to school, dress them up, make a monthly visit to a specialists, take them for vacation...but it doesnt matter to them...all a dog thinks about is next meal.
