Firstly, JF-17 is not totally indigenous plane, most of it is of Chinese origin albeit tailor made for PAF requirements.

Secondly, if we must, we should debate whether it is as good as or better than Mig-29, Tejas or any other fighter that is not with the PAF and we would have some reason to jump with joy.

I would be happy to go along with the notion that JF-17 is equal to or even better than F-16. But both the planes are in Pakistan’s inventory. Are we trying to prove that PAF planners were stupid to purchase second hand Jordanian F-16’s and that the funds would have been better spent on additional Thunders?

Frankly, we all know the truth.

it has nothing to do with which one is better...PAF is on a plan to increase its F-16 fleet, remaining within cost effective curve...and JF-17 block 2 is actually somewhat close to F-16A MLU... but definitely not better...Its just like having a Fleet of F-16 as the Lethal jet and JF-17 as a workhorse replacing Old platforms..

F-16 radar can track 5m^2 object around 105 km only. JF-17 can do it in 130 km.
Basically both are shit.

May be from your point of veiw it's pointless thread but for other it has a point which is where we should spend our money on more fo f-16 or go for a jf-17.

Maybe they induct when 12 planes are built. Tejas only has 1 plane built so far.

JF-17 will be the backbone of PAF. While the Tejas will not be the backbone of IAF. JF-17 are very important for Pakistan. There is no comparison between the two, JF-17 is designed by China while Tejas by India. When Pakistan designs and builds a fighter from scratch then we can compare.

NEW DELHI: The final version of the two-seater (trainer) version of Tejas (PV-6) made its maiden flight today, in a milestone for India's overall indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas Programme.
