What's new

If JF-17 as good as the F-16.

NEW DELHI: The final version of the two-seater (trainer) version of Tejas (PV-6) made its maiden flight today, in a milestone for India's overall indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas Programme.

The aircraft took to the skies at 13.36 PM and was piloted by Group Captain Vivart Singh along with Group Captain Anoop Kabadwal. This is the 16th Tejas variant to have flown as part of the project that has been in the pipeline for over two decades.

Final version of Tejas PV6, 2-seater trainer takes to sky in maiden flight - Economic Times

Ya ya you can't form a squadron from PVs. Only SPs can be operational. JF-17 had 6 PVs before building 50 SPs.

May be from your point of veiw it's pointless thread but for other it has a point which is where we should spend our money on more fo f-16 or go for a jf-17.

by the way Iraq may go for it.

It depends. F16s will be superior to Jf 17, always. Your Air Force generals will look at many things before they decide. Now F16 gives you many advantages, at a price tag which is quite high. Your generals will have a plan on how they will build future Iraqi Air Force from scratch. Now Iraq is a large country and faces many challenges, internally and externally. I would say they may be looking for atleast 6 squadrons with 16-18 aircraft each. Thats 100 aircraft. Now firstly do they have budget for 100 F-16s? Thats something like 6 billion USD. Then they will look at weapons that come with it. US weapons are best weapons politics can buy! But they come at a price. For ground targets you would like to use JDAM, most economical US precision weapon. Each will cost you 27-40000 USD. GBU -10/ 12 cost slightly more. AGM-65D will cost about the same. Either you have a coalition support fund otherwise you simply can't afford. And with ISIS and militants active you will need a lot of weapons for next few years. US might support your effort although taxpayer's are growing impatient in US for this kind of support.

Problem becomes severe when you look at pods like Sniper, LANTRIN, DB -110 etc. They cost million of dollars each. But the real problem is you are entirely dependent on US for each and everything. For your bombs to spares to repairs to training.....everything. No Air Force wants to be in this situation. So your generals will look to diversify, have more than one source. What you buy other than F-16 depends on how your Air Force is planned for future missions. If it is just Counter Insurgency, you may be better off with Su-25, scorpion, Super Tucano etc but if you look for multi role potent aircraft at less price then options are Jf 17, Mirage 2000 (used), Su-27 etc.

JF -17 gives you advantage of putting both western (not all) and Chinese and/ or Pakistani weapons. You can also explore other markets for weapons like South Africa, Brazil, Turkey etc and integrate these weapons easily on JF -17. In the end Jf 17 is no F 16 and it will never be. We produced this aircraft and we love it. Pilots also love it and there have been no complaints by them (remember some of them are ex- F-16 pilots). You can consider it the capable wingman of F 16 which will make his job easier. It will do most of the jobs F 16 can do but will not replace it, just compliment it. It will bomb targets with great accuracy using Pakistani, Chinese, south African, or other sources guided munitions using Chinese or western pods. It can defend airspace with its radar and BVRs from China, south Africa or Brazil. It can provide reconnaissance, attack enemy air defense, launch stand off weapons including cruise missiles. It can launch very good anti ship missiles to assist naval operations. It has decent range for its class and get to its targets quickly. It gives us bit of everything albeit in a package. That is how we built it.

I want to drive in Mercedes, it is so beautifully built. But it is too expensive to buy and drive. Service centre is also in a town far from me. Mechanics here dont know how to fix computerized parts of it and spare dealers dont keep all its parts here in my town. For routine maintenance I will have to send it to dealer in other town and will have no car to drive for that period. So I bought a Toyota. It is a decent car and gets all my job done. It is new and does not give me problems. I can have it repaired locally and it is cheap. It can never beat Mercedes in a race or comfort but I think I made the right choice. Don't you?

While we would love to sell you this aircraft, I am sure your Air force will look thoroughly at it and compare it with. Their future plans. They will keep their country's interest first and choose whatever suits Iraq best. It serves us well and we love it. We built it keeping in mind our two decades experience with F 16. We knew what to demand from designer and they delivered on it superbly.

My best wishes and prayers for people of Iraq. May they live in peace soon and build their country to great heights again.

Iraq is not going for it..brother...Iraq is buying the South Korean KAI T-50 as a complement to the F-16 blk 52+ which they may not get to fly in Iraq due to ISIS activity..but the pilots are training and flying in US.

We don't have real generals so far all we have is peice of craps know nothing.

Ok, Iraq we this kind of regime is another lebenon thanks to America.

unless this guy Abbadi has some balls to change everything then we may talk professionaly about Iraqi Air force.

But any way since these junks in the MOD they may go for jf-17 because it is cheep plus they look for some benefits out of it.

Well they talk about diversity that means they mau go to china for jf-17 or Pakistan and they may go to Russia for MiGs.

.
Well let's hope it happens...PAF will be happy to sell some...haha.. but as of now I know the iraqi govt Is unstable and weak...and any decisions made can be altered any time...let's see if they try and buy other jets than F-16 and T 50

Yes I have this question for a time if the JF-17 as good as the F-16 why China never inducted?.
Nobody in their right mind will compare JF-17 with F-16. Looks like you have consumed too much Pakistani propaganda about jf-17 on internet and especially on this site.
F-16 is one of the best thing the americans EVER made. Europeans were the original practitioners of higher technology. After the world wars US and USSR became the dominant powers and they made a scramble for european know how and technology. European scientists were shipped wholesale to america. There they help them with space program and other mostly defense related projects.
F-16 is one of those american things that satisfies the european standards for high-technology. Or putting it in another way F-16 is one of the few american things that europeans would be proud to call their own.
When people talk about planes there is too much mumbo jumbo about whats fitted inside the plane. Thats not important. The most important thing for a plane is its airframe. What a plane can do and what can be fitted inside it entirely depends on its airframe. F-16 and Su-27 family have the most superior airframe among the fighter planes in the world today. They have the most optimal performance. Sure there are better planes but they are not optimal.

No bro I'm not that kid to be manipulated by ones probagandas.

I've read some where else that this plane is equevelent to the block 40-42 so I tried to see what the Pakistanise say about it.

Last December the news came out that 5 Block-II will be handed over to PAF by the PAC by the end of Jan 2015. No sign yet. :disagree:
They might have been handed over if not 5 may b a couple of them. The airforce breaks the news when the have enough planes to equip a squadron and while they are inducting them.

Real question is can the jf17 provide a suitable defense for current and future threats that paf will face.

The backbone of paf is or will be 150+ thunders.

Your thunder will be in service for next 25 years.

To remain relevant the current thunder will need serious upgrades.

That will be the challenge

Will China invest its already stretched HUMAN resources
on this programme

China has so many programmes running concurrently

China has not yet made the twin seater trainer which is a must for exports

Overall speaking JF 17 is a low priority for China

@Malik Alashter

Fighter planes are built around their engines

ALL limitations of JF 17 are because of its engine

.
It's too small and light to be a major mmrca.

Paf should have gone for license of bigger more modern j10.

They are going to upgrade Tejas with upgrades from ancient India. They'll beat us for sure.

Tejas and Flying are reciprocal to each other :p

Tejas is an indigenous Indian project a which is now under serial production and is already ordered by IAF and Naval Air Arm.Tejas mk1 already have many capabilities of jf 17 blk 2,and mk2 is going to have an AESA radar. You can troll about it after you guys have developed your own fighter.Agreed ?

Here we go again, the Indians started trolling on this thread first. What do you expect me to do? Develop a pre historic laser and shoot them? No I prefer to reply in their words.
