ICG Ship 'Samarth', the first in the series of six 105 m OPVs, commissioned at Goa by Defence Minister manohar parrikar .

The class will be 105 metres long and have a displacement of about 2,400 tonnes. They will be fitted with a contemporary Navigational Integrated Bridge System with Bridge Watch Navigational Call Up System, CCTV System for complete surveillance. They will also carry quick response boats for search and rescue, and four lane simulator for small arms training. rest of six ship of this class will be delivered every 2 months from now.

Hurray :victory:more police boats/ships, good going, can any one say about how many boats, OPVs are under construction, can these ships be loaded with more punching power, what about navy's OPV,s, which is the largest OPV, IN has.

Just adding the universal vertical launcher to these ships will make them powerful in the times of war. These ships are configurable.

You need very expensive sensors, integrated battle management systems, survivability in diverse threat scenarios and trained manpower in addition to the weapons.

These ships are meant for making up the numbers for patrolling so that navy is freed up from high seas patrolling (with specialized war fighting ships - a waste), any plans to weaponize them will be very expensive (more than the cost of the ship) and time consuming.

They can be, but for more efficiency and better utilization we should keep the roles of coast guard and navy separate.

You will still need integration, battle management systems and training. NOT possible to develop that in war time. Besides its not clear what will be achieved by just adding more ships to a flotilla if they are just supposed to operate as cargo ships carrying missiles.

If any such role is envisaged, then the hardware, doctrine and training will have to be done NOW, not in war time.

These days the systems come as stand alone and can be integrated on platforms, integration and training are not an issue.
